Everyone immediately knows the answer. No one will say it in public though, and many a silent voter is in favor of the lesser because some people "deserve" it for their effort. Tons of money is wasted supporting sub-par performers, "ideals", diversity, etc.

We should just go back to rewarding the smartest, let them make a ton of money, but once they do, tax them a lot. If their goal was to be smart and help out humanity, then they shouldn't be too mad if their gross take home pay is 5 billion instead of 5.2 billion.
