Was I being chindi?

We are deciding where to get dinner and I'm treating, 4 family members including my brother. My brother recommends taj where per head comes easily to 5k per person and I say I don't want to pay that much for a meal. Then he goes on a temper tantrum calling me a chindi and that I'm not living my life correctly, etc.

I can afford it but I have always been frugal like that.

Sometimes it is worthwhile to spend if it's some special occasion. Your family will remember it forever (hopefully). But you should not be pressured into doing it brother.
