Many a times, they check people exiting the major stations. You can't just say you were just at the platform, as you need a platform ticket for that

Only minor stations you'll be able to sneak in and out

Better get on the general coach then and experience overpopulation + poverty firsthand

If you don't have a ticket, and have no luggage, you can try to hide in a bathroom or move around to evade the inspector. On long distance trains, they check it almost always.

Or just pay the ticket fare. It's very cheap.
