If it works, kill it.

I don't really understand how they consistently manage to screw things up. And they always say that the features are coming, but they never do.

I'm still bitter over Inbox.

I used to be excited about new things from Google. Tried to get into every beta, downloaded the newest released apps etc. But not anymore.

I just read about tasks being removed from Google Keep. Then the feature removal from nest hubs. Do they have a unified strategy at all? Or is it just the whims of a manager's daily musings that drive what development does?

I've also found (I'm a teacher) this generation is far less proficient at search. They (generalisation) type a whole question into Google, and read the Google created text box to get their answer, taking it as gospel - regardless of if Google has completely gone off the mark.

Contrast this to a generation that grew up with needing to refine search terms with key words, who can find far more relevant info quicker.

It's hard to get them out of the rut and teach them to be more critical of sources. They're so used to having what they need served straight up for them. LLMs (AI) are feeding into this more - they struggle to believe that AI hallucinations exist until I show them.

Again all this is generalisation - when I say 'they' I don't mean 'all'.

One of the best techniques for catching llm use is interviewing, which is now an approved technique in my jurisdiction.

They often don't have any idea what it is they've included, and cannot explain it or offer any further detail.

A Tweet for Anyone Who Has Used Word

So the issue comes when using tables.
Make a table cell end at the bottom of the page, and you'll likely have a new blank page appear at the end.

The reason is because word needs a 'new paragraph' marker (the backwards p symbol) after the table. This delineates where the table ends - it's part of the formatting. You can't delete it.

Ways to get around it:

  • Don't make you're table go to the end of the page.
  • Reduce the font size of the new paragraph marker to 1 (you need to enable show formatting marks). You can probably fit this at the bottom of the page without losing much space.

X’s Premium users can no longer hide their blue checks

Reply in thread

Iirc just recently they started giving out blue ticks to people with lots of followers, regardless of if they wanted it. Then this week they make it so you can't hide them. It seems like a dim move - piss off the people who bring lots of traffic to your website, but actively decided to not get a blue tick, by forcing the tick on them.
If they didn't leave beforehand, maybe this would make some people/orgs consider leaving?
