Voter ID: 14,000 were denied vote in England local elections, watchdog finds

The act of needing to apply for it will disenfranchise people. You won't be able to just pop in and do it on the way back from one of your jobs if you didn't have time to apply in the first place. If you have caring responsibilities and/or multiple jobs it's something that is easily forgotten about due to a lack of time.

Not hugely in favour of ID cards but if we all had them automatically it wouldn't be as much of an issue.

please be measured in what you expect of us: a non-binding appeal from one of the people running the site

One of the great things about this instance is that I don't think I've seen anyone complain about the setup in a way that reflects on you guys. There's a lot of understanding that it's early days and it's grown exponentially in the last few weeks. I think the mentality of this instance is what keeps and will keep people here. It's a nice space to be in.

So don't worry, you guys are doing a great job!

Comfort games?

Rimworld- I can and have lost hours managing my little space colony. You can make it as action oriented as you want, so if I want to focus on building my base and farming then I can switch off the raids for example.

I also love Two Point Hospital - so relaxing as there's no firm end point to levels, you can keep going if you want.

Wednesday wins

I've barely stopped all day as it's monthly reporting time but this is the first time I've managed to produce the 4 different reports in time on my own, so I'm calling that a win. Going to see Sigur Ros on Friday so that will be my treat for not having a breakdown

a more formal beehaw introduction thread

Hi, another Reddit traveller here. I'm a 30 something Brit who analyses data for a living, with a love of choral singing, reading and gaming. Loving Two Point Hospital and Rimworld- on the PC and Skyrim on the PS4 at the moment (but my PS4 died so trying to get the courage to take the plunge and get a ps5). I love live comedy and go to Edinburgh every year.

How do you pronounce "scone"?

Didn't think we'd be getting to the drama quite so soon!

I'm in the south west and I say it like 'cone' with an s at the start. I view the other way as being posh, but oddly enough it's the other way around for people in other parts of the country.

One of the things I love about the UK is the diversity in terms of accents, it's so rich

what would Reddit need to do to get you to go back

I don't see myself going back, at least when it comes to the app. I like the way RIF looks and would want it to stay looking like that, but I don't think Reddit wants that style as they're trying to make it more social media focused. I will likely still use it on the desktop but I don't spend a lot of time on my desktop outside of work and gaming so wouldn't be that often. I'm likely going to delete most of my comments on there soon
