I'm really interested in techniques like this, but my biggest gripe is that they always make accessing the data more annoying for humans than for the bots.

Yeah, it's a bit more compute, but these companies are so thirsty for data that they're at the point where they're buying and destructively scanning rare books. Data scrapers from the big AI firms are probably already at a point where they're willing to build harnesses to unscramble stuff like this. Meanwhile, most humans aren't going to care enough about your images to use special software to view them.

I'd really like to create something similar to poison/obfuscate open source codebases, but I've never been able to come up with a solution to the problem of AI having infinite tolerance for inconvenience and humans having very limited tolerance for it. Any barrier you create to inconvenience AI is always going to inconvenience humans more.

LinkedIn is one of the few places on the internet that feels basically the same even when filled with AI slop

Having used these extensively, I can say with confidence that they feel exactly as dumb as they are.

Apparently it earned this dubious honor purely from marketing... It has a marketing budget of 1 billion dollars. But it's allegedly made 5 billion, so... guess it was worth it to someone.

Of all the shitty AI products flooding the market right now, Atlassian's Rovo has got to be the most useless I've had the misfortune of using.

They should be hiring more workers to fix their AI slop, not replacing them with even more of it.

This has gotta be satire, right?

Remember the XZ hack a few years ago? That whole mess started with a targeted harassment campaign towards the project's lone maintainer. Eventually the sock puppet accounts wore him down and he was convinced to bring on a second maintainer to help with the project... who also turned out to be a sock puppet and who introduced the critical backdoor into XZ.

A lot of research has been done into this event since it happened, and the current consensus seems to be that both the harassment campaign and the malware creation were done on behalf of the Russian government.

So we're now in the era where FOSS maintainers have become the targets of literal nation-states.

That's pretty funny coming from the CEO of a platform that was already overrun by low-effort bots even before AI slop became a thing...

It's only fine until those sulfates react with water vapor in the atmosphere to form sulphuric acid. That stuff rains back down and contributes to ocean acidification which is causing serious harm to all sorts of marine ecosystems.
