Thanks Google

I think Google is showing why it thinks the result is relevant to the search. For example, the search used the term "find out," so Google bolded "know" and "determine," which it believes to be related to the question.

I'm not sure if this counts as a centralized server in your eyes, but many popular games on Steam offer dedicated servers in both Windows and Linux.

I think all of the Linux ones require steamcmd, but personally I've hosted (in no particular order) Terraria, 7DtD, Cryofall, Don't Starve, Ark, and more. It's usually pretty simple and decently documented, as well.

What's a scam that's so normalized that we don't even realize it's a scam anymore?

Sure, and that's great for you! I am, honestly, envious.

However, you said "you could switch." For many people, including me, we cannot switch while maintaining a reasonable connection. My options are my current ISP (really not too bad, for the first time in my life), an ISP that provides a maximum of 12Mbps, an ISP that still isn't quite sure if it can provide service to me, or satellite (which is pretty awful for a variety of services I use regularly). Even discarding reasonable expectations, this is not a "dozen or so."

While your proposal might be good for you and others in "socialist" Europe, many people (likely even outside of Europe and the USA) don't have that option and it probably doesn't help resolve the parent commenter's complaint.

Edit: also, while the USA is behind Europe in many ways, I suspect this is not so much a Europe vs USA issue as a rural vs not issue.

It's time to take advantage of Reddit's decline

I had a similar experience.

I'm using "Connect." For every post I see, there's both a "block this community" and "block this instance" option. After I started making use of these, my feed (while still limited) became much more palatable. Presumably other apps have similar functionality, but I cannot comment definitively.

What are some places you can spend time where you're protected from the elements and it doesn't cost anything to be there?

I've only ever been to one IKEA, but at least for that one, there were somewhat subtle but definitely visible holes in the walls and displays to allow you to cut through the maze.

ETA: Also - again, for that one - if you know what particular item you want, you can find that item's location on the website and go straight to the warehouse to grab the item off the shelves.
