MTG lead designer says "Trans people, people of color, and women playing a larger role, are all part of modern fantasy because they’re all part of the actual world"

Reply in thread

Couple things here, Maro is a designer for the game, not the CEO. He has a very active blog, including a podcast during his drive to work. He regularly shares his opinions; often times stating when he is opposed to the direction of wotc/hasbro but it is vetted by management because of trade secrets. MTG is a very inclusive community because it caters to the fringe communities that are inherently different. They really don't want to alienate their diverse fan base, they are a very expensive hobby that anyone can walk away from.

I am also going to recommend you actually read the article rather than a snippet/summary. He goes into detail about the user he was responding to is wrong, because he was unable to provide insight required for character building and how culture is whitewashed. This was not a push/PR piece he reached out to enlighten a user that was wrong. He is championing people to embrace diversity because it has visible value and gives examples. He is also doing this during an era of opposition which is when it's most important. Maro is an amazing person that has done significant work towards all kinds of game development, I highly recommend checking out some of his comicon panels.

What the hell Proton!

Hailey "Hawk Tuah" Welch is an influencer that gained a lot of popularity from her nickname (the sound of spitting, with HEAVY implications of performing fellacio). She used her platform to voice a very reasonable and intelligent opinion, which surprised a lot of people because her nickname is essentially blowjob queen.

One of her opinions is that it's important to spread cyber security and used her fame to try to educate the public (potentially a fake story from the image? Idk this drama). And some xit-head claiming to be a cyber security expert ate the onion and offered some shitty advice. Proton fact checked them, because there are a ton of fake news stories about her right now.

Path of Exile 2 is sticking to its 'ethical free-to-play' model instead of chasing Diablo 4's success

Reply in thread

The game is a heart breaking disappointment and a flagship example of enshitification. But the product managers delivered an amazing hack job. They retooled an existing engine, reskinned it tweaked some colors, and added item rolls and launched very quickly after the immortal failure.

The game delivered because the base design was functional, most of the failures came from the new loot system storing cache between players, not being able to scale mob size, lack of qa, lack of added art. All of which can be explained by the rushed time line. But the game sold ungodly amount of copies, just because of the name. Minimal investment and massive payout means it was a business success, although the players are still pissed that the original game designer had no idea what was fun. After the bad press activation did they try clean house but the damage was done.

How bad is Microsoft?

Microsoft has been building the O365 platform to lock out competitors and locking users into an ecosystem that is difficult to leave. They systematically eliminate competition and have pushed to create laws that make competition harder. In embrace extend extinguish, they are in phase 3, which is a massive red flag. They also started putting out spyware and malware into their software and have proven they can't maintain security; making them a bad actor in a position of power. Scale is debatable, but Microsoft is undeniably evil in 2024.

Does anyone speak hairdresser? I need help communicating.

Highly recommend looking up a guide from a hair cutting chain. From the sounds of it you want a crewcut ~20mm 3/4", "blend the sides" so that it transitions well, they might ask what size to buzz the side, you can just say "shorter than the top". Crew cut will give you the longest time between haircuts as well, take notes of the actual length or clip size so you can be more precise next time. https://www.greatclips.com/lookbook/crew-haircut

I'll also drop this in case it helps:

The joke is that a person named Hans Duchtelstein was the previous timelines "Hitler" and after being successful Hitler just stepped in because fate is inevitable.

Reverse: we time travel and kill Hitler, come to the present and Hans Duchtelstein takes Hitlers place but does the exact same thing.

ELI5: Docker containers

It's built on the shipping container parallel. In order to transport objects you obfuscate anything not required for shipping a container.

  • What's inside the container doesn't matter. The container has everything it needs to run because the ship/host is responsible for the overhead.
  • containers move. Containers are setup to run by themselves, so you can move it from one ship to another. This means you can use your container doesn't care if it's in the cloud or a shipping vessel
  • As soon as you open a container your stuff is there. It's very easy to onboard.
  • Most importantly though, your shipping container isn't a full boat by itself. It lives in a sandbox and only borrows the resources it needs like the hosts CPU or the boats ability to float. This makes it easier to manage and stack because it's more flexible
