I just had to throw out a batch that I'd barely started.
I feel like there's already a few rotten ones hiding when you buy them

Fake or not, story feels good. I feel like there are a lot of people in this world that just need to catch a spark for something.

/kbin server update - or how the server didn't blow up

Yeah, don't even get me started about all the ads on Wikipedia. /s Servers cost money. Money has to come from somewhere, that doesn't mean ad dollars, but likely donations/grants. Moderation is a given for any public space because people could start posting CP, and I don't think anyone wants that.

They do? I'm in the area, and there are definitely some that support progressive policies, but the majority of the people I know from the area don't.

Has Beehaw stated why lemmy.ml and kbin.social were spared, but lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works were defederated when all four share similar growth and open registration?
I say leave them to themselves. I tried applying for an account there, and was rejected. I guess they must not be hurting for new members. You have to wonder if they'll run out of people as other communities/magazines continue to grow without them. They might find their own members leaving in favor of those larger communities.

What can a senior desktop support tech do who is burned out?
I'm currently a software dev in the US, and I've always got a few things in the back of my mind: USPS, UPS, tradesman (electrician, carpentry, plumbing). Also not sure what your family situation is like, but if it's just you, I've always found the idea of owning my own tiny home exciting, and it could potentially reduce your financial burdens opening up more options for work because you won't need as much money.

Boston to try to convert empty downtown offices into residences by slashing their property taxes for three decades
I really wouldn't mind seeing this with commercial/residential mixes. Stores on first floor, apartments above sounds cool. Maybe even have childcare thrown in there somewhere as well. Like mega blocks from Judge Dredd, but.... nicer.

How does reputation work on KBin?
Thank you for asking this. I was confused, and honestly, too afraid to ask. This whole thread cleared up that mess. Not saying I want to Karma farm, and I'd be perfectly happy without a reputation system, but it feels bad to be in the negatives when it does exist.

Why is Kbin seemingly growing considerably slower than Lemmy?
I'm not sure if this is why, but another post here was saying there's been a ton of bot sign-ups for Lemmy: https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]/t/76632/Almost-90-of-the-accounts-on-lemmy-are-now-bot#comments
