Just noticed all models of the steam deck are marked as OOS now.

I know the LCD models were going but the other oled models were still good.

Did I miss any news about there being a freeze on the sales from Valve or any info about this?

I picked up one of these a month or so ago. Finally getting around to using it and messing with the open source alternative firmware for it: Crosspoint.

Anyone else have one of these?

So far I'm loving it. Really, aside from the lack of backlight, it's a wonderful traveling reader for me. Yes, semi-annoying converting some books for better formatting but overall can't say it's been that big of a pain to do.

I've noticed the volume buttons do not change pages when in the Kobo app on my Palma.

In the device Settings->More Settings->Short-press Function, the Kobo app doesn't even show up in that list, which is weird.

Anyone have a workaround for this?

Seems Ratta put up the A5X2 page by mistake earlier today.

It has since been taken down but it was archived at the link posted.

The A5X2 is named "Manta".

Who knows if the price is correct or was a placeholder, but it says "starting at $459" which is great news of true.

Kitt Betts-Masters has a video up on the new Bigme B1051C color eink tablet.

Haven't seen much info on this model out there.

Found this on reddit and thought it was interesting with regards to showing how a different stylus really does have an effect on how the drawing tools respond.

This post has some examples showing pressure differences using the Boox stylus vs the Remarkable one. Similar to my other posts here.

Picked up this case from Amazon since I didn't like the colors on the official case.

I had to buy a pen loop for a stylus, but aside from that, this is a basic no-frills magnetic case that I don't have much to complain about. The magnets hold the device secure enough that I don't feel worried about carrying it around.

If you search that case on Amazon you'll see it comes in other colors too. For ~$26 it's not a bad deal.

Another sketch on the Boox Go 10.3 using the Staedtler Mars Jumbo stylus.

Really digging the feel of the screen on this device. Shame that the pencil tool is pretty garbage. But the pen tools are definitely great.

The first sketch I did on my Boox Go 10.3. Top one was the brush pen tool. Bottom was the normal Pen tool.

Unlike my Supernote, I use the pen tools on the Boox exclusively and hate their pencil.

It's the opposite on the Supernote in the Atelier drawing app. The pencil on that is fantastic.

I definitety prefer how everything looks on-device vs the export, but I found if you don't use the marker or any shading tool, things look better when you export.

I'm not a fan of the zip-a-tone look of the shading when you export the markers so I stick to the pencil tool.

Still messing around with Atelier and figuring out the combo of which tools it offers and which stylus to use.

The pencil tool and the Staedtler Noris Jumbo is the best combo for how I like to sketch so far. This sketch is the 8B pencil.

I wish the pen/ink tools were better. The screen on the Supernote really is nice to draw on

I've had the Staedtler Noris Jumboand love it for drawing. I just purchased the Staedtler Mars Lumograph Jumbo and wanted to test the differences using the pencils in Atelier.

Here's a photo of the results.

The columns are:

L - Light pressure lines

H - Hard pressure lines

T - Tilt/attempting to shade lightly

X - Crosshatching with various pressure

The Mars is soft feeling like the Noris, which I like. But I found that I could not get as light a pressure /line with the Mars as I could with the Noris. You can see that in the photo too.

I think I'll stick with the Noris for art, but will add the Mars to the rotation for note taking.

I've just started using the Boox Go 10.3 for 2 days now and did some very early tests with the pen/pencil tools in the notes app to get a feel for which will work best for my note taking and for drawing.

I made a gridded up note to test the same types of strokes and sketching with the 3 pen types and the pencil tool.

TL;DR is all 3 pens will be useful for line drawing, but the pencil is pretty bad. Especially when compared to the pencil tool in the Supernote Atelier app. I will keep using the Supernote for pencil sketches and use the Boox for ink sketches.

I tested the 3 Wacom emr styluses I own, the Jumbo Noris, the Jumbo Mars, and the Dr Grip. I did not test the official Boox stylus yet. 

For each tool I did the same test:

First row: 

1. Vertical shading lines with as light pressure as I can get

2. Vertical shading lines with hard pressure 

3. Normal pressure cross hatch

4. Horizontal scribble shade from top to bottom

5. Vertical scribble shade with light pressure

6. Vertical scribble shade with hard pressure

Second - Fourth row:

1. Horizontal line with very light pressure

2. Horizontal line with hard pressure

3. Horizontal line starting with light pressure, then pressing hard, then ending light again (should produce a line with thin ends and a thicker center for tools that support pressure sensitivity)

Fifth row (Pencil only):

1. Horizontal scribble tilted with hard pressure 

2. Horizontal scribble tilted with light pressure 

3. Vertical scribble with light pressure 

4. Vertical scribble with hard pressure 

Results:

All tools with the exception of the Ballpoint Pen are pressure sensitive.

The Pencil tool only uses pressure to change line darkness, not line thickness, which is a bummer. 

Another odd thing with the Pencil tool was when making horizontal lines, the pencil is "softer" and shades in a thicker manner than tilting the pen and making vertical lines. If you look at the scribbles in the last row of the Pencil section you can see what I mean.

Next up I'm going to attempt the same sketch using each tool. After that I'll do some tests for note taking to see which feels the best and looks most like my handwriting. I'll post those later this week.

I'll also try and post some photos of how the android apps I use look/render.

Hope this helps any other people looking for art-specific examples for the Boox. I couldn't find much out there with reviews where people used it for sketching so I'm going to try and fill that gap.

I just received my Go 10.3 and figured I was going to start posting about it as I mess around and figure out how it will work for me.

Didn't see a Boox community, so I made one. Hopefully other Boox users will find it and contribute as well.
