The US is ordering every civilian agency to rip out DeepSeek, even tools built on it
Reply in thread
no. I'm in netsec, they aren't shutting down your local model with secret code. deepseek is a lot safer then Claude, grok, and chatgpt because you don't need Internet.

Trump’s Department of Homeland Security Secretly Ordered Cybersecurity Operatives to Acquire a Voting Machine and Hack It.

I'm sorry to say this to you. It wasn't difficult to make a voting machine in 2011. What we have are fraud machines. It's just politically impossible to make a secure voting machine, even though it's technically trivial.

God this is such a clarifying take. The meme is just 'voting is the most important thing you can do' when it was always narratively a free lottery ticket and now kind of actually resembles a free lottery ticket in other ways. would you buy a free lottery ticket? i would.

there is no comparison between software and services, though. self-hosting deepseek might be, subjectively, the wrong choice for your lab, but chatgpt is wrong for everyone, every human and every animal and plant too
this is coming from a k2 7b user btw. it's good enough for me!
edit: i replied to the wrong fucking comment and I'm too angry to fix it

What are your biggest pet peeves in the atheism community?
They singlehandedly exploded the anti-feminist movement in 2010, mostly because YouTube monetisation was more lucrative back then. I do not really blame them, it's a very "they know not what they do" situation, but it led to gamergate and eventually trump but a lot of things led to those. learning that you can't trust God went hand-in-hand with 'idiot women love astrology and crystals' and i don't think they predicted how much better their anti women stuff would do compared to the 2009 debating creationists content. Nonetheless I do crave accountability from new atheists, they need to stop rebelling from their Christian upbringing and instead either contextualise or uproot it.
Atheists now, they seem all right. Most of them my age seem pretty mature.

are you on the openbsd mailing list? the reason their code is better has a lot less to to with a lack of AI-generated code and a lot more to do with rigor. I've been watching them for a while now, they accept whatever code is coincise that meets their exacting standards
They don't have the ability to detect if you're using AI to code, no one does. they only know if you're vibe coding, because they are incredibly experienced and intelligent, and they are pretty polite at the people who obviously are, more polite than i would be.
