When on a diet, does you body have the same weight loss across the entire person including visceral fat?

No. You cannot target areas to lean out. This also holds for exercise: doing sit-ups will not burn the fat off your abs. The fat will also not necessarily come off evenly. Sometimes it does, sometimes the saddlebags stay until the bitter end even when your ribs are clearly visible. Genetics does play a role, but it can be dealt with.

(I'm a trainer and physiologist and helping people to lose fat is something I do.)

Is she into me? I really just can't tell.

I would go along with it and hang out and don't expect anything more. At worst, you have a fun new friend whom you like to hang out with --that's a win! Since she has no problems making the first move, if she wants this to be more, she'll let you know. Just have fun with your new friend!

that's how it works, right?

I feel like, at least in America -- and it might be just my part of America -- we feel like our hobbies have to make us look better. I can't just take photos, they have to be really good photos and I should look into selling them. You can't just like to make cakes, you have to make amazing cakes and do it for friends' parties. There's not enough emphasis on just do something you like because it makes you happy. This doesn't have to be a competition. It doesn't matter if your shit is abysmal as long as you enjoy doing it. Have fun!

Kids can learn to be quiet. Maybe libraries don't need whisper voices anymore, but inside voices for sure. Teaching kids (and adults it seems) to respect a public space and the people who are using it is not kid hostile. Sharing a space means all sides have to compromise and get along.

Have you ever met someone who is able to deeply engage in conversation in a wholesome and detailed way?

Reply in thread

Some of it might be age. I didn't realize until recently what I wanted. Got a new co worker who's only a couple years older than me (I'm 46) and after a few days of working with her, I told her she's ruining my other friendships because I've realized how boring many of my friends are. She's just very easy to talk to and we can cover tons of subjects. We always have something to talk about.

I don't think you can expect someone in their 20s to really know enough about enough things to really be euradite about much. They also don't have as much experience talking with people to be remarkably eloquent. That's not to say that everyone younger than me isn't worth talking to, but maybe you're scouting in the farm league and don't know it. Keep talking to everyone though: one day you'll find someone you hope never stops talking to you.

Is jogging on sidewalks harder on joints than if one jogged on dirt?

I'm an athlete and a biomechanics student who studies this sort of thing. Technically, if you do the physics, yes, pavement is harder than dirt. Will your body actually notice that difference given the forces that you experience from an easy run in modern shoes? Not likely. For a few hours a day, day in and day out over decades, then yes you will. But if you run a few miles once or twice a week, no, you probably won't see a huge difference. (And most trails frequented by runners are packed dirt that is not much softer than pavement. Getting onto shift and squishy loam tails isn't feasible for everyone.)

How do you successfully maintain a calorie deficit over the long run?

I'm going to answer this as a physiologist: First, eliminate processed foods as they do make you over eat Next, start exercising. Any amount is fine as long as you do something at least 6 days a week. Don't get obsessive; just do something To maintain the proper deficit, you need to measure and plan your meals. Keeping to a mostly consistent calorie total is important. It doesn't have to be exact every day, but you need to stick to a weekly total. This should be about 200-400 calories less than your total caloric needs by day. Too much and your body will fight back and your metabolism will drop to match this new level and you'll stop losing weight. To find the right amount, you're going to need to see a nutritionist and a weight loss expert with a real degree. They'll be able to fill in the details. Any specialty diet only works short term. An active lifestyle with healthy foods will make the biggest impact. And you need to be think long term: losing more than 1 pound per week will cause your body to fight back. You need to very slowly nudge it to where you want it to be, but also realize where your genetics put you. There are so many things to consider, so you need to connect with a specialist.

How did you fix your rounded shoulders/ hunchback pose?

As a trainer, I see and help people with this a lot. First thing is you need to find out what's causing it: is it stress (stress causes certain muscles to tense that pull your head forward), too much computer (or anything that puts your hands in the same position with a stooped neck, like reading, typing, sewing, driving, phones, etc etc), general slouching, low muscle tone, bad breathing mechanics, scoliosis or some other osteo pathology, or some other condition? Once you know that cause, you can start working on eliminating it. As you lessen the cause, you can strengthen the muscles that counteract what's pulling you into kyphosis. Exercises that do this include face pulls, rear delt flys, rows, pullups and quadruped arm swings. There are others, and you will need to look at your breathing mechanics as well. You're probably also going to need to stretch your pecs and shoulders and neck. To make sure you're getting everything lined up, you would do best to find an experienced and knowledgeable trainer and/or physical therapist. Your basic meathead might not be as concerned or educated in straightening you out. Also be ready to commit to this for at least a year. Progress with ligaments takes 6-18 months, so don't expect results in a week. You could see a chiropractor or a rolfer, but there are so many quacks out there that I couldn't recommend it. One visit to a chiro could fix certain joints if you can't get your head all the way back, but more than 1 is likely unnecessary. Find some trusted professionals with actual schooling and they should be able to help you out. Good luck!

What websites do you use as an alternative to Amazon?

Plus, if you buy directly from the manufacturer, you know you're getting a legit product with a good warranty. Some brands also have stores that double as service centers. If I order Nikes and they don't fit, I can return them to the local Nike store. Many offer free shipping just like Amazon, easy returns, better color choices and no creepy tracking or crazy knockoffs.
