Three reasons why "AI" is not conscious and perhaps never will be
Reply in thread
Both the proof and the experiment are built upon a fallacy. You gave the LLMs the goal of generating line noise and they achieved it. There is nothing novel about that goal and naturally the product is not novel.
It is well-established that any LLM pipeline that distills down to generating output for the sake of doing so eventually collapses into a manic cascade of gibberish or silence. Goals that can be worked toward are needed to keep that from happening. At some point the progress toward the goal becomes over-refined and a new goal is needed. That necessitates an ability to change goals and a framework that allows for that.
A LLM loop is nowhere remotely close to the definition of consciousness. To actually experiment with that, you would have to write your own harness and preferably look at some research papers that have explored the adjacent topics. This is a lot of words to say that chats are not conscious (they need a perpetuator), loops are not conscious (they refine into silence or collapse into garbage), and anything remotely resembling a conscious loop requires purpose built tooling and a good faith effort to model an analog of human articulation.
Most basic bitch experiments with a LLM prove nothing and achieve nothing because they are not designed in good faith and good faith requires too much research and time investment. This is not to say that I think anything we have in front of us remotely resembles consciousness, but I also think that most people trying to prove otherwise are doing so with the equivalent of smashing rocks together.

For someone who is allegedly concerned with unification, your ad hominem sure is shittier than the one you were responding to.
Leave the stewardship of your cause to people who are actually good at it. Unless that was the point, in which case, carry on.

Is the plan for the US + Russia to full on spitroast Europe? What is realistic here, in 3-9 years?
Ignoring the practicality of achieving it for a moment, acquiring Greenland and Canada gives an allied Russia and US near full control of the Arctic Ocean corridors. Most of us spend our time staring at 2D Mercator-esque maps, so I highly recommend taking a look at things from the top down to appreciate this:
Also see: https://geology.com/world/arctic-ocean-map.shtml
I think it's best to consider that this is a long term play for control of the Arctic. Sea ice very much remains a factor, but the amount is shrinking every year due to global warming. Over time this opens up new seasonal routes, both for drilling and transport.
Sure, it could just be Trump's narcissism wanting him to add another state during his presidency. The thing to remember is that someone else is always the one giving him these ideas. (see: Project 2025) These imperialistic ambitions on Greenland and Canada of all places did not emerge from nowhere. It's the motives of people who are giving him these ideas that you need to be concerned with.
Svalbard is next.

Problem 1 is also largely solved by ditching GitHub in favor of an environment where you control who is allowed to submit a PR. GitHub is convenient but if you have problems with vibe code volume, choosing to host with a company who heavily incentivizes it and has a commercial interest in doing so is self-defeating. Treat it the same as any other free service that enshittified after several years of market capture on the basis of being free and convenient.
Problem 2 is the actual reason the project tanked and your take is spot on.

I personally vote for being polite and cordial. Patiently wait for them to finish, then swat the camera right back down with a baseball bat.
Smile, then offer them the baseball bat and invite them to take a swing.

If you do feel it is justified, apply a litmus test: would it still be acceptable if it was done by [insert someone you hate here].
Woah, woah. Slow down there pardner. You're trying to teach leopard sensitivity training to someone who can't perceive a leopard until their face is halfway chewed off.
Shame on you. The empathy impaired are people too, and they can't be held accountable to awareness of rights that are not directly benefitting them at the moment.

IMO: A lot of this is groundwork for a parallel construction narrative. “Of course our numbers are better than theirs, we would have won every election ever if it weren’t for rigged votes.”
The primary goal isn’t to win by driving the actual vote count down, though it certainly helps. The actual goal is to create the widest smoke screen possible, so that any time the numbers look strangely in their favor it’s because there are fewer illegal immigrants “voting”. Deportations! Better ID verification! Blue vote numbers are down, and it’s because the Trump administration fixed the system. Just ignore all the fact based studies that showed how few votes were tallied in error.
Their demographic doesn’t need proof for what they want to believe, just a plausible narrative that they are already groomed to accept.

::: spoiler Tap for spoiler The villain has his own Gestapo in unmarked fighters who are live testing a eugenics bomb on fringe worlds and were the ones behind the false flag op. The GenSelect bombs are designed to purge weaker genes and ensure mankind has a standing army of “warriors” who will be ready to face future enemies. His plan was to reveal the Gestapo as heroes after being appointed to the head of the fleet by the United Nations equivalent.
Your counter play is to use a stolen stealth fighter to break into the vote on declaring war. The final boss is saying the right things to not get kicked out of the room and turn the crowd by revealing the baddy has gone full fascist.

Your reasons for being unhappy aren't completely unfounded. We get that. It just doesn't change the fact that you're wallowing in a Canadian brand of conservatism in response to our even stupider conservatism. It isn't going to stop folks from rolling their eyes at the tone deafness or finding amusement at your microcosm of our own bullshit.
It's clutching poo to your chest while complaining that we're exporting our stinkier poo on your doorstep. Is ours stinkier? Sure, I'll be the first to admit it and include our right leaning "liberal" party in that statement. It's still poo.
