Am I the only software engineer greatly worried and disturbed by AI ?

So far it is mainly an advanced search engine, someone still needs to know what to ask it, interpret the results and correct them. Then there's the task of fitting it into an existing solution / landscape.

Then there's the 50% of non coding tasks you have to perform once you're no longer a junior. I think it'll be mainly useful for getting developers with less experience productive faster, but require more oversight from experienced devs.

At least for the way things are developing at the moment.

Best lemmy client for android

Using Connect, it was the second app I tried during the time there were a lot of connection issues with Jerboa (the errors weren't their fault, but they weren't handled as gracefully as I would've liked at the time). No complaints really, so I've stuck with it.

There are plenty of people without issues using FireFox (like me). That being said, I'm sure there are those that have issues, so no downvotes from me. It is however better to not generalize like that.

Xbox Game Pass made $230 million revenue in one month, most users pay for full subscriptions

Reply in thread

It's this or buying nothing. I play most games for a few hours to see what they're like and then ditch them. I love the current system as it is kinda making me feel like I'm part of gaming still while mostly being too tired to play. Starfield is the first game in years I've spent more than 5 hours on (dozens by now) in years. Never would've played it without gamepass.

So a yay from a guy in his late 30s

I haven't found many dishes I enjoy eating after they've been frozen. I end up cooking the same dish again before I've finished the frozen ones as it tastes so much better fresh.

I've kept up the habit of prepping for a few months but I gave up as I started ordering in unhealthy food a lot more rather than eating the frozen stuff.

Green vs. Brown Programming Languages

Reply in thread

C# is also a loved and brown language. I've personally enjoyed working in it the past 9 years and see quite a few 'legacy' projects of 10+ years old. These projects do get the occasional refactoring but overall I still see new employees get up to speed with them relatively well.

It's nothing amazing but in general pretty pleasant to express yourself in, especially for the more enterprisey projects. I do not really see many people mention it as much in discussion threads though.

Larry was paid $4.20 an hour in Australia. It’s not enough to live on – but it’s completely legal

It depends, my father is disabled and just wanted to feel useful. In the end he was unable to be productive enough for it to be worth the extra time from the colleagues supporting him.

I'd be happy for the government to subsidize the salaries to match an actual minimum wage, but it is unrealistic to expect disabled people to match the efficiency of abled people and compete with them for jobs of an equal salary. They might not be able to find employment very easily then, which really hurts those who wish to participate in society.
