I signed up for lemmy.world because I don't want to write an essay. Shout out to the lazy people.
Wow. I didn't realize beehaw has over 380 instances blocked! Now I feel like I'm missing out on the Lemmy fediverse.

Climate records tumble, leaving Earth in uncharted territory - scientists
Does this mean we're all going to die? Like humanity will be gone without a trace? If so, how soon?

What are your thoughts about Obsidian not being Open Source?
I use it because it stores my files in a versatile exportable format (markdown) and the app is well made. I have blocked all network access from Obsidian so I'm not worried about data harvesting. I sync my notes with syncthing, so the folder that contains my markdown files is synced across all my devices.

Geary and no support for PGP, looking for alternatives
Thunderbird will be releasing a completely redesigned app from scratch next month. It has a fresher look. Maybe you could install the beta and try it out?

Is this satire?
Wouldn't she have less wrinkles by staying indoors, versus the hour-long commute with sun damage through the car windows?
Also: Is she eating out of a dog food bowl? Who made this lol

What distro(s) do you use?
I used to use Debian but after switching to Fedora Silverblue two years ago I've had zero urge to distrohop. I love that it allows me to tinker without breaking my system (which I used to do with Debian).

YES
I currently am using Nextcloud Notes which sync as markdown files to my computer's Obsidian vault. Love that when I dont have my devices with me I can still access and edit my notes online.

Unless OP is already in deep with home automation devices or plans to be, I agree keeping it simple this way will keep the overhead/maintenance low and be more reliable.

BIFL Suggestions
I have a commercial vaccuum cleaner, the kind that hotel staff use. Unlike modern plastic vaccums with many small flimsy parts that break after 3 years, it's built super durable and all the parts are replaceable and easily found online. It's called "Sanitaire Heavy Duty Commercial" and cost me about $120. It's UGLY but it cleans carpet very well.

Smartphones with "pure" Android
I feel like a Pixel with GrapheneOS is the closest you can get to stock Android minus the Google apps.

How many accounts do you have on lemmy/kbin?
I have one Lemmy account for now. Following the KISS protocol (keep it simple).

What screams "poorly educated"?
Reply in thread
Yes exactly. I didn't mention it above but it seems like the people who use "and I" incorrectly are the same ones trying to sound smarter by being more "proper" or formal. I agree people should just focus on the content of the message. I would not correct anyone in real life, but secretly inwardly it drives me crazy.

Your favourite themes
Adwaita theme - makes Obsidian look native on my Fedora Gnome desktop.
If not for Adwaita, I'd probably use Minimal or Things themes.

Global network of sadistic monkey torture exposed by BBC

I have also come across those baby monkey videos on YouTube. I found them a bit unsettling but couldn't pinpoint why. The article doesn't make any connection with those videos to the torture though.
