Podcaster Jennifer Welch Denounces 'Dipsh*ts' Schumer and Jeffries for Not Riding Mamdani’s Progressive Wave
Those two are a shining example of how the Democratic party has enabled the growth of facism in this country. If you stand for nothing but party donors then you become complicit in whatever results from your inaction.

The Left Is About to Take Power. The Stakes Could Not Be Higher
Reply in thread
Yea, I am a big fan of Mamdani, but seeing the wider state of "the left" in the US, I do not think he will be able to have the impact we would all like to see. I sort of see him as another AOC/Bernie for now, at least until he starts successfully achieving material changes.

Americans overestimate the size of minority groups and underestimate the size of most majority groups
Reply in thread
Yea, similarly there is no way 70% of Americans are Christian. That's probably just the way they are raised and are likely to fill out if you don't feel comfortable saying "atheist".

California voters will consider a measure in November to raise taxes on billionaires
Reply in thread
Yup, I already have received multiple fliers that try to paint it as a generic wealth tax and do not mention that it only applies to billionaires or that it's a one time tax. People will be deceived. Hopefully the language on the ballot is straightforward enough.

Farmers who graze sheep under solar panels say it improves productivity. So why don’t we do it more?
Reply in thread
You're right, it is much worse. The goal is to breed them as quickly as possible, use them for their wool while they are useful for it, and kill them much younger than their lifespan for their meat. I think it would be a kindess to slowly stop that torturous cycle.

‘Dictator’ Trump Floats Idea of Canceling Midterm Elections
Reply in thread
Insightful comment, thanks. The frustrating part for me is that the media has a tendency to parrot his talking points without directly challenging them in the same breath. That allows his narrative to take hold (especially when it is backed by other members of the government) and steer popular opinion in his favor.

It's perfectly fine to use "whataboutism" to counter tired talking points that do nothing to advance actual discourse. Like yea, people died in capitalist countries too, how is that in any way advancing a discussion about these differing economic systems. Go a step further, ask why these things happened in communist countries. Think about how they differ from similar situations in a capitalist country. Engage with the ideas and then we can have honest discourse.
