Home Assistant 2026.3: A clean sweep

This update seems pretty tame from the release notes, but I was worried about the python update.

I have a lot of HACS integrations, and several HACS custom repository integrations that are updated very slowly when things get updated around them.

I'm happy to report that all of my integrations work just fine after the update.

To Americans: How far apart is everything in the US?

I want to add that in many places in the US it is not just the distance, but the danger and outright discouragement of walking somewhere. For example, I contemplated using a train to get to Lego Land in California from Oceanside, California. After getting off of the train I would have to walk 1.3 miles, which is only a minor inconvenience. However, after reviewing the walking route google has this qualifier: "Use caution - may involve errors or sections not suited for walking". This prompted me to review the walk using street view and I came to the conclusion that there was not a safe route.

This is just one example of something that I think should specifically be available. There are many places where walking is encouraged and convenient, but it is by no means universal.

*Permanently Deleted*

Absolutely nothing other than voting. Any individual "reducing their plastic use" is just a drop in the ocean. The only meaningful change is through legislation or some economic situation. The only positive outcome of reducing your own plastic use is that warm and fuzzy feeling that you get from believing that you are doing something good.

However, I do not want to discredit that warm and fuzzy feeling. It brings people joy, and I think that is great.

Is Lemmy dying?

Lemmy is not Reddit. It would be weird if 1/100th of the population could recreate Reddit in a week on a different platform.

For now a lot of former Reddit lurkers are going to have to elevate their game and live without the dopamine hits of getting a lot of upvotes and comments on their posts.

Community moderation policy

One issue I have is that I believe that !lemmyworld is the only default subscribed community when a new user signs up. If the intent of this community is to just talk about the instance, maybe it should not be default subscribed, or maybe it should not be the only default subscribed community. Can the initial default subscribed communities be setup to guide a new user?

Philosophy on commuter bike

After getting an electric cargo bike to haul the kids around, I cannot imagine not having the motor for any hill. Sometimes I ride the electric with no assist, and sometimes I don’t want to get sweaty and leave it on full assist mode (Bosch Turbo).

I still have a road bike for individual exercise, but the electric is amazing for transportation.

Memmy Version 0.1.0 - Here is what is fixed, changing, and being added to the upcoming App Store release

Reply in thread

For now, use them all. I’m using Memmy, mlem, liftoff, wefwef, lemmy.world as a PWA, and thunder. So far it seems Memmy, mlem and wefwef are the most “iOS” of the bunch, but several variants have their ups and downs. For example, when I want a link to a community in the cleanest form, I go to mlem (three dots in top level of community provides a share button). Memmy is my main daily driver and does my notifications. Wefwef is just amazing that it is a web app. Thunder and liftoff feel like what I expect android to feel like (material design).

I expect I will settle into Memmy, mlem and wefwef with some occasional web app and website usage of lemmy.world, it is great to try them all right now.

We have options with servers, and options with apps, and we have no need for monogamy among these fine options.
