I still love maps. Still use them because ....... I know it better than route planners and they never run out of batteries. One time my wife called me from her car while I was at work. I answered and all I heard "WHERE AM I AND HOW DO I GET HOME". (think nokia 2110 era) I knew she had visited a friend and figured she took the scenic road home like I often do. Just a few short questions and I knew where she was and tell her the easy way home. Kids still talk about it, they are amazed it worked.

For me it's about ownership and control. The things I really need (mail server, webserver for my own purposes) can really run on a raspberry pi. Done that for years.

Today it's proxmox on a lenovo thinkcenter M710. One VM internet facing, one VM internal only (like home automation, nagios4 core, syslog to psql + grafana) way cheaper than a vps in the cloud.

I'm stunned .... again !! .... I have visited Auschwitz and it's impressive beyond words.
