Chinese AI Writes Weaker Code for Beijing’s Adversaries

Reply in thread

This is what AI is for.

No, this is not what AI is for. This is what dictatorships here and there are turning it into. Or, in a broader context: This is what we human beings do. This is a human mistake that is - in this case - done in the Chinese Communist Party.

Your 'link' is just a form of whataboutism. I provided two other sources that come to the same conclusion, and there are many more that prove China is not a trusted player in AI, very much as it isn't in all other areas. The fact that the US government isn't reliable either has nothing to do with.

Max stupid: EU may loosen EV rules for third time in two years, aiding China

the country that actually is providing solutions to those problems: China

China heavily depends on fossil fuels to 'provide solutions to those problems.' If we rely on China, it gets worse. China is the world's top emitter of CO2. A third of global emissions is produced in China (second is the US with 12%, India below 8%, while the EU ranks fourth with 6.5%).

Since 2000, emissions in China have increased by +260%. In the EU emissions the decreased by -30%.

China's own five-year plan provides evidence that consumption of fossil fuels in thecountry will rise by 2030.

I'm dissatisfied with a lot of European politics, but framing China as a solution is complete fantasy. China is worse by any comparable standards. Environmental and social norms exist at best on paper while the ruling Chinese Communis Party's one and only goal is its self-preservation at all human and ecological costs.

Zelensky says he doesn't think he did anything wrong after public spat with Trump

The only person who did something wrong was Trump, supported by his deputy. They did not only verbally attack Ukraine (and, by doing so, Europe), Trump and Vance didn't even pretend to make a case for American interests, given Vance's complaint about Zelensky who thanked U.S. ammunition workers in Pennsylvania when he travelled there, because, in the new U.S. administration's view, this is seen as a support for the Democratic party.

The only positive thing is that the meeting was held in front of TV cameras so the world could witness the self-sabotage of the United States of America. A 'behind the scene' treachery would supposedly be much more harmful to Ukraine. The picture becomes more complete if we look that earlier this week, the U.S. had already voted at the United Nations against Ukraine, siding with Russia and China.

But now, the truth is out: The two men now holding the highest office in the White House are ready to sell the U.S. and its allies to the worst dictators on the globe, as Trump literally admires bad persons as he has been saying over and again. This is a signal the world has finally received. In Ukraine and Europe, but also in Taiwan, and the rest of the Asia-Pacific region, in Africa, in Latin America. It's a tough issue for Ukraine and the democratic world that must now reorganize.

But the toughest long-term challenge is already out for the U.S. Its allies' lost trust won't recover, and the world's dictators will pursue their own goals (maybe even more than ever). The United States are alone in a connected, globalized world. And this means that, with or without Trump at the helm, it'll become increasingly difficult to make America great again.

I am convinced that this is not what the majority of U.S. people want for their country.

The European Union is becoming the world’s “quality of life” superpower

Reply in thread

There are a lot of challenges in Europe (with foreign powers interfering heavily to drag down Europe and the rest of the democratic world as we know), but by any comparative standards - such as the Human Development Index (HDI), the Inequality-adjusted Human Development Index (IHDI), the Gender Development Index (GDI), the Augmented Human Development Index (AHDI), summarized here - Europe and only a few other areas and countries (Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Canada, ...) enjoy a higher standard of living than most other world areas.

But it's not a given. Europe must do its part to protect its own achievements and collaborate with other democratic governments to increase quality of life everywhere.

Ukraine's status as a new democracy and the country's obvious path toward democratic freedom was exactly the major reason why Russia started the invasion of Ukraine in 2014. The Kremlin doesn't want Russians to see that there is an alternative, freer system than Moscow's autocratic government.

'Go back to Ukraine': War refugees complain of abuse in Poland

Ukraine has become a hot-button political issue in Poland's crucial presidential election campaign.

Far-right populist Slawomir Mentzen, currently polling third, is virulently anti-Ukrainian and supports an "agreement" with Russia's Vladimir Putin ...

Michal Marek, who runs an NGO that monitors disinformation and propaganda in Poland, offers some examples of the anti-Ukraine material being circulated on social media. "The main narratives are that Ukrainians are stealing money from the Polish budget, that Ukrainians do not respect us, that they want to rob and kill us and are responsible for the war," he says.

"This information starts in Russian-speaking Telegram channels, and, after that, we see the same photos and the same text just translated by Google Translate. And they are pushing [the material] into the Polish infosphere."

Mr Marek links such disinformation directly with the increase in anti-Ukraine sentiment in Poland, and says an increasing number of Poles are becoming influenced by propaganda.

"But we will only see the effect after the election - what percentage of Poles want to vote for openly pro-Russian candidates."

Seems to be the same Russian disinformation campaign that we see elsewhere (and we have been observing since Feb 2022). Unfortunately, there is an audience and 'spreaders', also here on Lemmy.

As an addition:

Poland finds what it says may be foreign-funded election interference

Poland said on Wednesday it had uncovered what could be an attempt to interfere in its presidential election campaign [Poles vote in election first round on May 18] using advertisements on Facebook that may have been financed from abroad, an assertion the social media platform disputed.

European governments have been on high alert for signs of electoral interference since Romania cancelled an ongoing presidential election in December due to allegations of Russian interference ...

The Chinese government bans all new investment in Israel

... since the outbreak of the war in Israel, Beijing has classified Israel as a “high-risk area” and imposed a ban on any new Chinese investments in the country.

The South China Morning Post, a Hong Kong-based Chinese propaganda outlet, published just last week that China, Israel continue to collaborate in science and tech despite unrest in Gaza.

While Beijing supports Palestine and has a fractious relationship with Tel Aviv’s closest ally, cutting-edge innovations keep them together.

In a report published just now in February 2026, Lloyd's Bank explicitly says,

Chinese investment in Israel has grown rapidly in recent years, particularly in software, IT services and consumer electronics.

Trade between China and Israel is also at an all-time high since the outbreak of the pandemic, and this hasn't notably changed since the Gaza war (with Chinese exports to Israel have always been higher than imports from Israel, so Israel runs a trade deficit with China).

It's important to note that this Chinese Ballet Vision fund cites losses of its investment since the outbreak of the war in Gaza, and it seems this is the real issue here. China is heavily investing and trading with Israel. Nothing has changed.

This is not much more than propaganda, the numbers paint a different picture. China-Israel business ties are stronger than ever, despite Gaza.

Trump is creating so many jobs with this parade (This is satire)

Guard Soldiers Deployed in Trump's LA Crackdown Aren't Getting Paid Yet

The 4,000 California National Guard soldiers who President Donald Trump surged into Los Angeles remain unpaid due to delays in issuing official activation orders, leaving compensation and benefits in limbo.

According to more than a dozen Guardsmen across four units who spoke to Military.com, none has received formal activation orders, the critical paperwork that not only authorizes their duty status, but also unlocks pay, Tricare health benefits and eligibility for Department of Veterans Affairs services. Without those orders, troops remain in a legal and administrative limbo.

This is not satire :-)

Protesters in cities across Germany demand ban on far-right AfD

Office for the Protection of the Constitution suspends classification of the AfD as far-right for the time being

.... This does not mean that the Office for the Protection of the Constitution is deviating from its assessment of the AfD, but only that it is keeping quiet about it publicly. ... This is a tactical procedural move. The AfD can now no longer claim that the court has forbidden the secret service from reporting on the upgrade ...

In addition, the [legal] proceedings could now be accelerated ...
