Tedd.it is Shutting Down
Teddit and other alternative frontends were a perfect way to send someone a Reddit link when they didn't have an account because the mobile web experience is just pure cancer.

Hachyderm admin: if we were to cost of the people working on this instance, it costs $1.50/user/month, $8.50/active user/month.
Reply in thread
In the US maybe. Even in western Europe, 10k $ or € is a buttload of money per month. Something like 4x the net salary of a backend developer here in Belgium where I live.

They plan a release for 2028. It's going to be a while before it can be used for everyday browsing.

It also means that the rendering will potentially be different on each platform given they all use different native webviews (and there's no "native" webview on Linux but WebKit-gtk is the most widely used one)

whats a game that you got significantly far into, only to realize you were doing something wrong or missing a key feature/ability altogether?
When I was a kid, I used to "play" Operation Flashpoint. I remember being too dumb to realise that the mouse was used to move the camera so it was basically me moving around with arrow keys and strafing to see a little to the left and right.

Does anyone actually enjoy working out?
I've been going to the gym 2-4 times per week for about a year now. It's a massive chore every single time and I don't enjoy doing it but I do it for health benefits.

Not really. Helix is closer to Kakoune which is based on the modal editing of Vim but reimagined a bit.

After Paris, Brussels now also examines measures against 'car obesity'

As always, everything is going to be complicated to implement in Brussels. I wish the city wasn't split into communes, it makes little sense imo.

Bazzite has gained nearly 10k users in 3 months while other Fedora Atomic distros remain fairly stagnant
Reply in thread
I guess his son picked Bazzite for gaming. Linux Mint would not help with that since it's lagging behind in updates to drivers (Mesa, etc)

Opinions on Session?

From what I can gather, they don't intend on adding multi device capabilities for technical reasons. A big requirement for me is to be able to use both mobile and desktop without losing the history.

Which is better: Aura or Paru?
I have decided against Aura because it splits the commands for AUR from the standard repos. With paru I can upgrade both by running just paru. In the end, that's all I mostly do with an aur helper.

Maintenance release: Godot 4.1.1
Thanks for fixing the Wayland bug! I had to revert to 4.0 since 4.1 was completely unusable on my desktop.

Can we discuss TV streaming boxes?
Reply in thread
I supposedly have the simplified home screen but there are still ads for various streaming services. And I use fdroid for most of my apps but the overall experience with the streamer is very poor and outright hostile. I'm planning to get a random android TV box to replace it.

I have the latest Google streamer but I find it garbage. Not only is the UI not very fluid given the price of the device, it has ads on the home screen that you cannot turn off and, worst of all, the play store is hidden. I have to go deep into the settings to fucking find it.

Fact : what's really behind the Swiss E-ID
Reply in thread
If I'm not mistaken, it's up to the the service that's using the Belgian e-id to enable some of the options or not. For example, the website where I check my payroll only works through itsme or with a card reader — no TOTP or SMS 2FA. It's a big issue because itsme refuses to run when you don't pass Google's safety net.
