Trump says proof of his allegations that vandals cut Reflecting Pool paint will be provided in court

I thought the whole thing with the algae started when they switched from using clean drinking water to pulling water from a drainage pond to save money. As I remember it, there was always fertilizer in that water because of upstream polluters, so we'd have to either stop them from polluting, or filter the water to clean it up to a suitable standard to prevent algae growth.

$15 million isn't a lot to steal, and there was massive potential for an unironic "This was Obama's fault" if he just switched back to (expensive) drinking water, filtered/sanitized the pool, and called it a day. The incompetence is staggering.

it's just pure racism at this point

The tattoo on the one on the left really looks like a tattoo of her own face. I'm not big on tattoos of faces in general, so that's a little strange for me. It could be her mom or sister or something, I guess.

The one on the right has the same tattoo. I certainly wouldn't get a tattoo of someone whose job I took, whether they were fired because of racist fans, or they had poor job performance, or... Anything, really.

I think you are misreading this rule. This allows an exemption to the time and a half pay minimum for overtime for highly paid people in a computer related field whose job duties are sufficiently executive or administrative in nature. If they are very highly paid (~$150,000 per year) the exemption is easier to qualify for.

The referenced section of the FLSA exclusively reduces the wage protections of people exempted under its rules.

Google Promises Unlimited Cloud Storage; Then Cancels Plan; Then Tells Journalist His Life’s Work Will Be Deleted Without Enough Time To Transfer The Data

Ok, so I think the timeline is, he signed up for an unlimited storage plan. Over several years, he uploaded 233TB of video to Google's storage. They discontinued the unlimited storage plan he was using, and that plan ended May 11th. They gave him a "60 day grace period" ending on July 10th, after which his accouny was converted to a read only mode.

He figured the data was safe, and continued using the storage he now isn't really paying for from July 10th until December 12th. On December 12th, Google tells him they're going to delete his account in a week, which isn't enough time to retrieve his data... because he didn't do anything during the period before his plan ended, didn't do anything during the grace period, and hasn't done anything since the grace period ended.

I get that they should have given him more than a week of warning before moving to delete, but I'm not exactly sure what he was expecting. Storing files is an ongoing expense, and he's not paying that cost anymore.

Can someone fact check this

Owls don't weigh 16 pounds (except for fat owls). 300 kilowatts is a rate of energy, not a total quantity of energy. 300 kilowatt hours (which is possibly what they meant?) Is only around 260,000 kilocalories (which is called "calories" on food labels because units of measure were made up by humans). According to an extremely naive google search, that would only take an owl 5 years to consume, rather than 10. If the original number were correct, that would mean this owl eats 8,000 calories per day. Which is not typical.

Onto the broader point, the efficiency of birds in flight is not as simple as this image suggests. There is no (useful) formula that takes the weight of a bird and the distance it will fly and tells you how many calories that takes. Birds can fly at different elevations, at different speeds. They can fly with or against the wind. They can change many things about how they fly to be more efficient or less efficient.

If you really want to know how many calories it takes for an owl to cross the ocean, first get the owl to the point of starvation, then bring it on a boat to the middle of the ocean. Feed it a fixed number of Tootsie pops, then sink the boat. With nowhere else to land, the owl will be forced to fly to shore. Based on how far the owl makes it, you can determine how far each tootsie pop allowed it to fly, and derive calories per mile from that.

Scraping scraping scraping.

There's a lot of answers here, but I don't think anyone said the magic words. To reseason cast iron, you need an oil high in poly-unsaturated fatty acids. Those are the kind that can chain together, and form a good polymer coating.

The thing that trips me up most about this subject is that 140 years ago, pork fat was very good for seasoning cast iron. Today, it isn't, because the composition of the fat has changed significantly.

The best seasoning coats will be thin, not appear or feel oily, give the pan a dark color slightly more glossy than an eggshell, and resist mild detergents, metal spatulas, and heat high enough to sear a steak on. If you have a layer of loose stuff in the pan, that's just a layer of gunk, and is probably adding some weird flavors to anything you cook.
