What package manager do you use for arch based distros?

So I recently installed Cachyos and I am now met with this problem.

There are kind of 2 main contenders here and I'm split between them. What do you use?

There is pacman + aur and then there is flatpak. Pacman has deep system integration and is much more lightweight but it has deep system integration and requires sudo to install. flatpak has sandboxing and easy permission management but it's bloated and possibly less performant?

Of course if the package isn't available on flathub then I will have to use the aur but when both are available it's hard to decide.

Where did all the keyboard kits go?

I took a break from mechanical keyboards because I had a keyboard I was happy with. Now I need another for a second desk and it seems like all the keyboards people recommend now are fully pre-built.

This doesn't make sense to me, I really like the ability to chose my switches and keycaps (especially my keycaps). I don't see why you would get a keyboard that already has these when the first thing your going to do is replace them.

Is GPS private?

I can't believe I've never thought about this and that no one is really talking about it. GPS is a system that everyone uses everyday on there phone and is constantly tracking your location.

Many people here (including myself) use airplane mode to block mobile data signals so that mobile data companies cannot track your location and sell it to data brokers. But airplane mode doesn't block GPS (I just tested this now on my phone, maybe your phone works differently). Is GPS somehow designed in a way so that it's private?

Do you guys struggle with eye contact?

I'm not really sure if I have adhd or not at the moment and I just realised this. I'm not sure if this is related to adhd at all but I just find it weird looking into peoples eyes, when I listen to people I usually look out a window or something and sometimes people ask me weather I am listening and I didn't even realise I was looking out a window I kind of just assumed they knew I was listening.

Also as a side note, I have a lot of symptoms of adhd but I'm not sure if to enough of an extent, since I see a lot that everyone has the symptoms of adhd just not to the extent of someone that actually has adhd has.

Do you also have that one comment in the bottom of your lemmy inbox that you've been meaning to respond to for the last several weeks or months but you keep putting it off?

Do you also sit on your couch or bed and just stair out the window for like 30 minutes or longer at a time?

I also have struggle focusing on school work, this hasn't always been the case but it's a lot more now. Once the coffee from the morning wears off I can't focus for long enough to finish a small portion of a single Maths question before I'm staring out the window thinking about something completely unrelated, then about 5-10 minutes later I realised I'm distracted.

You've probably also noticed a pattern at this point, I love staring out windows!

the search for a decent public transport solution.

I've spent a while looking at this point and all the options I've tried so far don't work very well. I'm looking for an app, website or desktop program that has the ability to navigate using public transport. At the moment the best thing I've found is osmand but sometimes it just doesn't work, it will just spend ages loading without ever finishing (I've let it load for at least 10 minutes) Also comaps/organic maps can only do short distances or it just crashes out saying there is no route available.

Does anyone have any good options or is osm still only have very primitive public transport offerings?

Options for remote Wake-on-lan. Or I guess wake on WAN.

So I want to setup a remote backup location at my parents house although they are very mindful about there electricity usage and environmental impact (and so am I) so I don't want to have to have a pc always on when it doesn't need to be.

Is it possible to setup remote Wake-on-lan so I can schedule my homelab at my place to wake up the server at my parents house and start a backup like once a week, I want to do this in a secure fashion as well so ideally no port forwarding, I currently use cloudflare tunnels for my home network.

Are there any other options or do you have a similar setup at your place?

[[SOLVED]] how fast is the high speed label in UNIT3D?

In the trackers that use the UNIT3D codebase some of the torrents have a label saying they are high speed. Does someone know the speed required to get the high speed label? Is it 100Mbps, 500Mbps a gigabit?

EDIT [[ANSWER]]: I recently found out that it just gives the high speed flag to whenever the torrent is being seeded by a seedbox (regardless of the actual speed). This could be different depending on the tracker of course but I think this is most likely the case for most/all unit3d trackers.

Is there any open source tv focused os/ui?

Yes I know about kodi but I have a few issues with that for one it has a pretty outdated ui but this is not a deal breaker for me but it also doesn't allow the opening of other applications like Netflix or jellyfin etc, you have to install a compatible plugin.

Are there any gnu/Linux desktop environments that are optimised for a home theatre time situation to be used with a remote or game controller? At the moment I will probably just use gnome or kde but it doesn't work well at all with remote or game controller.

[rant] about my school.

Just a short rant about the the bad privacy and hardware freedom about my previous school that I'm sure others could also relate to.

First of all everyone was told to buy macbooks which are really expensive, have limited different hardware options (I guess it could be considered a plus) and have non existent budget options. And they have no freedom or room for fun, I can't install or try Linux on it, no asahi doesn't count its only one option anyway. And all that for no reason whatsoever they used to use Apple airplay but they don't even use thay any more so they had no good reason.

The Google situation. The school used google for everything. The school website was hosted on Google cites, you had to use Gmail with an account with your first and last name tied to it. We used google classroom, google drives, google docs, google everthything. There was zero chance you could use this school with privacy and I feel alot of other schools are in the same boat.

KZ zsn pro x sound week with no base.

I recently bought a pair of KZ zsn pro x from the official store on ali express and when I started listening to them they sound really empty with seemingly no base. This is comparing to my budget gaming headphones (razer blackshark v2) From what I've heard online there is nothing but good things said about them. I got them on special for like 15 bucks which is so cheap.

Is it normal for iem's to have a almost non existent base compared to headphones or did I just get a bad batch of what I ordered? I did hear some complaints about bad Qc which I think means quality control so maybe thats the problem I'm no audiophile so I don't really know.

[[SOLVED]] Never mind guys sorry I am a little bit silly. They really need to go all the way right up your ears.

Encrypted messaging recommendations.

Hi everyone, I am looking for an encrypted messaging service to start using and recommending to my friends and family, I really want to get this right the first time. At the moment I'm looking at using matrix I really like it's bridges and federated nature, Although I'm not 100% sure about it's ux.

What I want to ask is what messaging service do you use and do you have any regrets with it? What encrypted messaging service would you recommended?

Edit: I just had another question are any of the bridges in matrix end to end encrypted? If person A used matrix and person B used signal could person A use a bridge to talk to person B securely?

Edit 2: thanks for all the responses guys it looks like signal seams like the best option since it has really good security like many other messaging apps but it's also easy to use.

Tips for getting better at Linux.

I am a Linux beginner/amateur and I have sort of had enough of copy and pasting commands I find on the internet without having a good understanding of how they actually work.

I guess my end goal is to be able to comfortably install and use arch Linux with my own customization's and be able to fix it when things go wrong.

What tips/ideas do you have for getting better at navigating the terminal, and getting a better understanding of how the os works. What is a good roadmap to follow? And how did you, advanced Linux user, get to the stage your at now?

Edit: my current distro is bazzite just in case you were interested and thanks for all the replies you are all really helpful.
