The problem did exist though. The problem was that the company wants to make money, but they weren't making money. So they came up with an idea, however stupid, that they thought would sell. So they tried it and it sold and now we have highly complicated, advanced tangentially expanding hinges.

Fyi, there's a lot of woo woo (edit: apparently racist term) crap out there that tries to make you believe that somehow the photons can feel that a human is watching them and they choose to behave differently as a result. We were at a very authentic Chinese restaurant and and a family showed up and asked waiter for recommendations they said the roast duck is very good which is very true.
