It's a piece of gum tree. Eucalypts are hard as the devil, which is proving to be a little slippery in practice. I chiselled out a grid pattern which is working okay, but it's still slipping much more than my old rotting pine log.

I've been trying to get into greenwood carving. I did this with a stanley blade and a tiny 6mm curved palm gouge. I need a hook knife for sure, that gouge was painful to use.

I'm fully supportive of the accessibility for persons with disabilities, to be clear. It's ironic though. Does Lemmy's open source code make it easier for bots to scrape it?
