I remember seeing demonstrations or illustrations many, many years ago for common time signatures like 4/4, 3/4 and 2/2, but don't remember what those are.

I don't remember being shown patterns for more exotic signatures like 5/4 or 9/8, but they must exist.

Of course, if you've ever played in an orchestra or band, this is second nature. For the rest of us, it's kind of neat that conductors basically have their own sign language.

At an IT-related business, I had a colleague reformat and install Ubuntu after he foolishly clicked on something he shouldn't and compromised Windows on his machine. The rest of us weren't affected and stayed on Windows, but I did feel a twinge of guilt that maybe I ought to have done the same (Installed Linux, that is, not clicked on malware).

For the work we were doing there was almost nothing that didn't have a Linux equivalent, so it didn't affect him much if at all.

For the rare exceptions, we had a virtual desktop server, which had existed prior to any of that, because we occasionally needed very old versions of software that would conflict with the modern versions on people's PCs.

This was all over a decade ago though, so it's hard to determine whether the same circumstances would have the same result.

There's a saying about Yorkshire folk, probably invented by rival Northerners, but could just as easily have been a self-deprecation:

My agoraphobia's foundation is the other definition of phobia. That is, I don't fear being outside per se, I just really, really hate it. 99% of weather sucks and I'm away from home comforts, and that takes my already shaky mental health down into the negatives.

Tangential reply: The manner in which your 1TB drive "took a crap" might be cause for concern depending on the precise nature of the failure.

If the hardware is fine, you might be able to recover files on it. This possibility is diminished if you've reformatted and put new files onto it, and practically nil if you did a full drive wipe beforehand (or the failure, whatever that was, did something similar.), but the possibility might have been there and may still be there.

If the hardware is not fine, you probably shouldn't use it for anything important, if at all.

Any plans I make usually end up with something preventing them from being possible, or they begin to unravel if I get to the point of implementation.

I can think of a few things I might do with the money once it's under my control, but there's nothing I can do to prepare for any of that.

One thing I wouldn't do, however tempting, given the foreknowledge, is start to spend it before I have it.
