If we flipped the script, and the people working the shittiest jobs in America got Elon Musk money for working what would happen? Then gave the rich the same wage the lowly worker would earn?

rich people dont 'earn' money by working. so, none of this makes any sense. youre conflating several different valuations/reimbursement streams and i dont see how it could be resolved

just tax the fucking rich.

the hilarious bit is you could tax them at 100% over x and they will still be richer than you will ever be... because generational wealth is purposefully very hard to track, tax and really understand. the u.s. tax code was written for these people

Why are Republicans undoing worker heat protections?

Reply in thread

nope. as much as id almost prefer it be malicious, id say thats adding more thought processing into these peoples actions than they deserve. they are morons chasing every dollar and the cruelty is an unnoticed byproduct.

none of these sickos is sitting around trying to make peoples lives worse. they are only, ever, thinking of how to make their lives better. it just comes off as purposefully malicious to those with even a little empathy. these people have none.

do not give them cognitive credit for acting better than the animals their actions show them to be.

What is your favourite joke?

i like to tell this at dinner parties, introduced as 'the holocaust joke'

jewish guy, gets thrown into a concentration camp. spends years in there.. somehow makes it through the entire war alive, saved by the americans at the very end. after the war he migrates to the united states, finds a bride and has a large family. he lives to a very ripe age of 99, and suddenly at his death, finds himself at the pearly gates of heaven.

the jewish man walks through the gates, down a long hall where he can just make out a looming figure at the end. he approaches god himself.

the jewish man says, "god, i'd like to tell you a holocaust joke"

god looks down at the man and in a booming voice says "sir, that is not funny."

the jewish man says "oh, i guess you had to be there"

(is there any other communtiyes i can share this in theres only 3 privacy communites) what am i doing wrong? i feel like i have no privacy or connivence

the fediverse is kinda the opposite of private. everything is somewhat designed to be incredibly public. activities (posts/comments/votes/moderation) is literally broadcasted across subscribed servers. its very very public to those entities. trying to then expect some kind of personal privacy behind that is absolutely doable for the user, but the contents gunna live somewhere, usually pretty public.

if you want private posting, youd want something non-federating.. ie.. not the fediverse.

ahhh i see. i gave up on that a long time ago, not long after a (requested) visit to a 3 letter agency, inside of one of them mirrored rooms in a windowless office building.

i just stay off most social media and use unique emails for literally everything that requires one. otherwise, im not important enough to put all that much effort into it and im definitely getting too old to.

Why does lemvotes.org only work on some posts/comments?

the protocols underlying the fediverse are largely.. hmmm.. more like guidelines than rules.

there are literally hundreds of different platforms/projects sending around activities with lemmy being only one of those interacting places. somtimes lemmy is just a relay for non-lemmy content. it can get very complicated.

and then add to this that server operators can modify their servers reactions to activities however they see fit. most users would use shit 'out-of-the-box', some heavily modify their source projects... for example, to ignore 'delete' requests to circumvent moderation.

if you think youre ever going to find the 'correct' vote count, youre expecting more accuracy from that metadata than it will ever provide from any source.

R/girl dinner diary's is truly horrific.

crazy, but this was genuinely happening on reddit over a decade ago, prolly longer. i had used reddit since before subs existed.

pick a sub/forum with the same content in almost any context, and the same shit comes up because reddit is unfortunately a reflection of humanity in general, and we are stupid, in general.

careful moderation is the only cure, and you see how impossible that can be when your agenda does not include the general well-being of humans.

i see 404s all the time on deleted threads/comments. when i look in my history i see stuff, when i attempt to click into it, it turns out that thing was moderated and deleted and shows a 404. the metadata technically still exists in places, but in others it is now inaccessible. and thats just my platform, which is not lemmy. every platform handles things slightly differently.

"reliably"? im surprised it works at all..

kinda like email. ever try manually sending an email via telnet? crazy the shit works at all
