More folks need to get comfortable with the block button. I have a list of users blocked for being shitty, but there sometimes seems to be this weird mentality that blocking users instead of debating them is weak or something.

I’m one dude paying out of pocket to have a tiny instance (up for 3 years now) on the web that anyone can sign up on. No shareholders, no ads, no requests for payment or donation, no data hoarding or selling. With all of that in mind, people still won’t leave social media and sign up. They don’t actually know what they want because doomscrolling has them hooked. It would be fine if they deleted their accounts, signed up for nothing else, and went out to touch grass. But they won’t do that. They’ll, at most, ditch it for like a day or two and then go right back to old habits.

What I fucking hate is this pattern of attacks on open source and self-hosting we’ve been seeing. Anthropic’s CEO saying that open source self-hosted LLMs are “dangerous” for example.

This is a good reminder that if you work in tech or in the video game industry, no amount of good work, overtime, creativity, awards, or anything of the sort, can save you from the chopping block. Capitalism will ruin everything you love.

Elon is a masterclass in the Dunning-Kruger effect.

I don’t really care about vibe coders but as a dev with just under 2 decades in the field:

1. Your vibe coding shit will not go to prod until humans fully review it
2. You better review it yourself first before offloading that massive mental drain to someone else (which means you still need to have some semblance of programming skills). Don’t open a PR with 250 files in it and then tell someone else to validate it.
3. Use more context. Don’t give it vague ass prompts.
4. Don’t use auto-accept. That’s just lazy asshole shit.

I can’t stress this enough: if you give me a PR with tons of new files and expect me to review it when you didn’t even review it yourself, I will 100% reject it and make you do it. If it’s all dumped into a single commit, I will whip your computer into the nearest body of water and tell you to go fish it out.

I don’t care what AI tool wrote your code. You’re still responsible for it and I will blame you.

My advice is to buy nothing from AliExpress or Temu.
