Concerns Raised Over Bitwarden Moving Further Away From Open-Source

Reply in thread

Proton Pass is open source and the company that runs it recently reincorporated as a Swiss non-profit to ensure their privacy mission can't be bought out by venture capitalists etc.

Reddit user alleges California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) non-compliance/violation; and finds it difficult to delete posts and content on Reddit

Reply in thread

Yes, reddit let's you delete everything you post but then they secretly repost it all a few days later. I'd argue that's worse because they make you think it's deleted but it's not.

This behavior is demonstrated in the video and many other reddit users have posted similar complaints recently. I have personally experienced the same issue.

Valve amended the Steam survey for December 2025 - Linux actually hit another all-time high

Reply in thread

It doesn't really matter which is easier to install because only a very small percentage of people are comfortable with installing an OS of any kind. The vast majority of people just keep whatever OS was pre-installed. 99% of the time that's Windows or MacOS.

Hopefully 2026 brings some more mainstream options to buy computers with Linux pre-installed. I think that's unlikely though, other than Steam OS for some handhelds and Valve's new hardware.

It would be great if Lenovo or Dell or others prominently featured Linux options to try to capitalize on all the Microsoft hate. I know they already sell some Ubuntu options but they aren't featured or advertised. I suspect they are afraid of pissing off Microsoft.

Google Keeps Making Smartphones Worse

Thanks for these, especially the "we're not going anywhere" link. I was hesitant to switch because I was worried about future support on my Pixel 7. Here's the full quote for anyone that didn't check the above link:

Many companies and individuals are trying to mislead people about the future of GrapheneOS to promote their insecure products and services. GrapheneOS is not going anywhere. We've made it clear we're shipping Android 16 soon and that the supported devices will remain supported.

"SO proof" distro

I vote the same, but I'd suggest a uBlue spin of the Fedora Atomic desktops. They have better defaults (all batteries included, as they say) and are easier to use overall IMHO. Bluefin and Bazzite are both great options, and both offer KDE and Gnome variants.

https://universal-blue.org/

Edit: TIL the KDE version of Bluefin is called Aurora.

BTW, uBlue is getting some big recognition lately. They have been on the Fedora Podcast (official) and Framework Laptops has official instructions on their website for installing Bluefin and Bazzite.
