The thing is if someone doesn't know how to make one of these, they definitely don't know why it's a bad idea.

The Republicans Should've Faced Way More Criticism During The 2024 Presidential Campaign

And that's the thing, the Dems losing doesn't teach them any lesson, they're not going to pivot to the left because they lost, they'll only double down on neoliberalism.

This is exactly it, they're going to feed all this data into a model to try and get an AI to be able to perform operations in the OS like a human would.
Which on the surface of it sounds reasonable, but only if they actually paid people to generate that data for them. And this isn't even touching the privacy aspects of a record of everything you do being generated and stored in plaintext.

Genital mutilation should be illegal
Reply in thread
The big difference is the consent; bottom surgery is done with the consent of the patient and circumsicions are typically done to babies who have no say in the matter. Heck, if someone wants to get circumsized later in life, they absolutely should be able to. Don't get the whole thing about 'mutilation', adults should be able to do whatever they want to their bodies.

I have a feeling that at least some tankies might be fascist in disguise...
Reply in thread
Accelerationism doesn't even make sense at the moment, if a revolution breaks out, it will be a free-for-all, with different groups trying to claim all the power. And judging by the results of the election, the majority of Americans either fully support or are fine with fascists winning. The working class has to be educated, has to have their consciousness built up before a revolution can actually go communist, otherwise you just end up with populism and fascism. It's very shortsighted thinking.

Llama 2 is about as factually accurate as GPT-4 for summaries and is 30X cheaper.
I feel like with a lot of new technology, you have the frontrunner who proves such a thing is possible, then you have those who build on that work to make things cheaper and more efficient, etc.

Now this is how you conduct a poll.
Majority of people believe the Moon landing was real. Conspiracy Georg, who smokes 100 packs a day was an outlier and should not have been counted.

Don't worry, since Trump will install himself as dictator for life, this means he has more than 4 years to get someone to Mars.
Then again, given Trump's age and diet, maybe 4 years is generous in and of itself...

Fetterman has to be one of the biggest disappointments for the left in recent memory

It must be so easy to grift money out of conservatives. Just spout some conspiracy theory about how 'they' are actually behind the bad things in the world and watch the money pour in, regardless of how little sense it makes.

Nothing is requiring employees to be in the office five days a week

Guarantee this is a ploy to chase off the 'less committed' employees (read: less desperate), while not having to announce mass layoffs.

RFK Jr's critics say his candidacy as top US health official is 'poke in the eye of science'

It's unfortunately also exactly something that would appeal to the US right. 'Hell yeah let's show those elite scientists a thing or two, what do they know?'

Kagi silently removed all references to Google's index from their website
Reply in thread
Oh interesting, I never knew about that side of Kagi. The fact the company is focused so hard on AI is a red flag. I don't think I'll renew my subscription when it comes up later this year, given how erratic their plans seem.

Trudeau: Canada will retaliate with 25% tariffs on $155B of U.S. goods
Reply in thread
Yeah, it may hurt more in the short term than just accepting the American tariffs meekly, but it's the right thing to do to stand up to this American insanity. Just accepting Trump's bullying doesn't fix anything at all.

You underestimate my power, I see a Settings menu, and instantly enter a fugue state, 30 minutes pass and I suddenly come back to myself, my desktop environment looks entirely different, the windows are wobbly, and GTK window theming is broken.

Chinese startup launching RISC-V laptop for devs and engineers priced at around $300
Reply in thread
Yeah that's exactly the thing, people freak out so much about China having access to their data, but act much less concerned when it comes to their own government potentially having access to said data. One of these options has the ability to affect your life if they don't like your data, and it isn't China.
(Not to get me wrong, I think no government should have access to one's data, moreso pointing out the double standard)

I've always heard the ideal is about a 20% raise from your previous position, especially if you have plenty of experience with the new position.
Though this does depend on many other factors, I'd definitely try to get an idea of the standard salary for this position through any means, even a site like Glassdoor or something. Knowledge is power, especially when negotiating a salary!
