[meta] Last round of suggestions on our upcoming rule change

Hello everyone! RockSlayer here with another mod update. Recently we had a metapost (found here!) seeking to amend the rules in light of a public disagreement between myself and another mod. Based on feedback from that metapost, we will be implementing a rule banning support for authoritarians. This is one more chance to provide feedback before we codify this rule as written:

Unconditional support of authoritarians will not be tolerated.

Just to be clear ideologically, we are not becoming an anarchist community or using an overly broad definition of authoritarianism. As an anarcho-syndicalist myself, balancing this rule to prevent the exclusion of statist ideologies is of the utmost importance to me; that is why the rule has the requirement of "unconditional support". If you feel like there is a better way to phrase this new rule, please give us your suggestions!

The Union Busting Playbook: how to inoculate coworkers against union busting

Have you been wanting to unionize at work? Are you concerned about union busting disrupting your organizing efforts? Well then this website will be invaluable to you. CWA is a bottom-up, worker led union. Ever since the PATCO strike made unions afraid of striking, CWA alone has basically kept the idea of striking alive in the US. As an effort to modernize their definition of communication, CWA has created this playbook to prepare you and your coworkers against the insidious and misleading language union busters use to destroy your campaign.

It wasn't until 2020 came around and we regained our voice before things changed in favor of organized labor. Even with companies violently affecting workers with layoffs, now's the time to organize. As the saying goes, the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is now. As a tech worker myself, the knowledge that there wasn't a single union member laid off at Activision Blizzard should be sign enough that unions provide job security.

New Community Rules

Edit: After several days of allowing for people to discuss these rules, there has been no major feedback. In light of this, these rules are now considered the new rules of the community.

Hey all! rockSlayer here with a mod update. Recently, I reached out to the other mods and we came to a consensus to operate our community by our values and democratically select community rules. We also want to use some ideas intended to lead discussion. As long as there are no major objections, these are the things being considered. If there's anything you'd like to see, add it in the comments!

Rules regarding behavior:

  • Absolutely no fascism, right wing extremism, genocide denial, etc.
  • Good faith discussion about ideologies is encouraged, but no sectarianism
  • No brocialism/sexism
  • No ableism
  • No TERFs/ anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric
  • No racism
  • No trolling
  • No insults, dunking, or personal attacks
  • No posting of misinformation, disinformation, or fake news
  • Remember that there is no "right way" to implement leftist theory. Do not accuse historically classified socialist countries of "doing it wrong". This rule does not prevent academic criticism.
  • Try to avoid extremely sensitive topics unless approaching them with appropriate care for intersectionality. Use your best judgement, and be prepared to provide respectable sources when having these discussions. Wikipedia is not an acceptable source in these cases.
  • Mods have final say

Posting Expectations:

  • Comics/memes/shitposts/propaganda are only allowed on weekends
  • Try to avoid liberalism unless discussing electoral politics. Even then, try to focus on tactical agreement towards leftist goals
  • Only one meta post seeking consensus per person per day
  • Posts about a particular ideology are ok, but remember the rules above
  • Post titles must be meaningful and relevant, except on weekends

Ideas for discussion: (admittedly, this section is a lot more loosely structured, and will probably result in meta posts. That's ok)

  • Topic/ideology of the week. This could be done a few ways, like a megathread. It could also affect what ideological posts are allowed for the week. The next week's topic could be voted on in a mod-pinned meta post.
  • Theory Thursdays. On Thursday, post articles/questions/videos/infographics discussing leftist theory. This could be as simple or complex as you want. Alternatively, this could work in conjunction with the topic of the week
  • Create a discord/matrix server

No Kings Must Mean No War: Foreign Policy Is Least Democratic Space in Politics

While the payoff for organizing happens only over a longer timeframe, the work starts now; there are no shortcuts. We can begin by organizing in the spaces where weapons are designed, marketed, created, transferred, and sold. A grassroots campaign spent months pushing a drone company with ties to both the Israeli and U.S. security state out of Brooklyn. They just won. These are successes we can replicate.

The Political Left Has An Antisemitism Problem And It Makes Me Sick (Reddit Post)

EDIT: Being neurodivergent is a giant pain in the ass.

I linked to a Reddit post instead of just making the post here, because I find making posts on Reddit easier. The post composition screen on Piefed has too many fields; it is too cluttered and “busy” for me. I feel drained when I make a post here. I have some cognitive disabilities which I think are to blame.

I didn’t realize that linking to a post on Reddit would piss everybody off. Fuck me for struggling to execute basic executive functions, I guess 🤷‍♂️

Maybe I just need to forget about posting here and go back to using my dormant Mastodon account.

Algeria votes to declare French colonization a crime and demands restitution

It is just like a colonizer to call this a “hostile act”, smh . . . That is like punching someone in the face and then acting surprised when they say they are in pain! Quote from the article ⬇️

France slammed the law as a “hostile act” threatening bilateral efforts to heal wounds of the past. The two countries retain close cultural and economic ties but have troubled diplomatic relations.

In a solemn ceremony steeped in symbolism, 340 of 407 members of Algeria’s National Assembly voted late Wednesday to approve the law. The move came just a few weeks after African countries made a collective resolution for recognition and reparations for colonial-era crimes.

The law covers the period from the landing of King Charles X’s army on the beaches of Sidi Ferruch west of Algiers in 1830 to July 5, 1962, the date of Algeria’s official independence.

Should we use something like fightchatcontrol to campaign for a wealth tax?

There was an article out there about how the website fightchatcontrol was impactful against the Chat Control idiocy of Denmark. Maybe we need something similar for the wealth tax. It is the biggest lever, I think, that we can use to get more equality in our societies and take power from the anti-immigrant narrative. It would also weaken those in power as they would gradually lose their wealth and make it possible for more citizens to be informed --> less control.

I truly believe that a more educated public will naturally be left-leaning and progressive.

@[email protected] would you help with this?
