Don't worry, according to some I am an evil tankie :p

I call china like I see it, good and bad. They have a massive freaky police state. I do think sending cops extrajudicially is better than sending bombs extrajudicially but one hopes the standard is higher than a limbo bar in hell.

Chinese Comic Investigated After Singing a Riff of a Patriotic Song

It's not clear to me from the article if this is reported -> gaoled for political dissidence pipeline or reported -> decency standard complaint type pipeline.

Comics everywhere get reported all the time for offending some numpty or another. The use of "investigated" is ambigious and could mean anything from "people are watching the set to see if it violated some rule" to "digging through someone's life for evidence of crimes".

Basically: is this more than random Pearl clutching (in the framework where government political censorship is much more prevalent than in Europe/anglosphere)

Don't be that guy.

Me approaching Foss developer with bug: Pardon me, if you could grace this lowly worm with but a moment of your attention; I with me a bug report, and I believe I have found the section of code responsible. This inadequate being lacks the technical expertise to fix it and would be eternally indebted if you would turn your monumental skills upon its trifling problems. It would please me immensely if my paltry efforts were of some assistance.

To his credit he undertook sensitivity training and is a much, much, better communicator now.

He used to channel the whole juvenile angry-but-gifted programmer crap, accepted (eventually) the criticisms and did the right thing: changed.

Who fixes toilets under communism?

Happiest I've ever been at work has been fixing and cleaning things that needed it.

The thing that always stopped it was the inhumane work conditions and lack of respect. If you're happy to treat me as an equal, and make me a cup of tea when I take a break to stretch my back and knees I'll do the dirty shitty work for you.

If you want me to work to the point of damaging my body and then raise your voice at me if you see me taking a damn breather then we're gonna have a problem.

Let them eat cereal rule

Don't do this, you'll be malnourished. Grains aren't a particularly good food group.

Potatoes don't require much prep, are generally cheap and filling, and will be much better nutrient wise. I'd still recommend rice and beans though. Canned beans work if you have no means to cook.

Anon finds a rock

There are still cool rocks in the ground. Touch grass, look for rocks, photograph fungi, watch a tree grow through the seasons, skip a rock, laugh at clouds with rude shapes. It's all still there.

Australia rule

Oh can we stop this? we have no large land predators. Indeed Australia is so peaceful as to give rise to the quokka that fearlessly approaches humans.

Sure if you piss off a kangaroo or deliberately antagonise a spider you might get hurt but you'd have to really really try and odds are you would just get fixed up in hospital.

This land is peaceful, it's inhabitants kind (well, except the humans, the English really did a number).
