This is rather as if you imagine a puddle waking up one morning and thinking, 'This is an interesting world I find myself in — an interesting hole I find myself in — fits me rather neatly, doesn't it? In fact it fits me staggeringly well, must have been made to have me in it!' -Douglas Adams

Lines up perfectly ... for life as we know it. See also: The Anthropic Principle

Justice Department Says Filming Immigration Raids Is 'Domestic Terrorism'

Reply in thread

I knew this was gonna happen. "terrorism" being defined as "violence and intimidation for political means" .... the authorities claiming that recording them is not only intimidation, but that intimidation is de facto the threat of violence!

"Speech is violence" is what they claim, which equates to political speech = terrorism.

It's for this reason I believe "terrorism" in and of itself shouldn't be a crime. But I digress.

[FTA} the Justice Department encourages federal prosecutors to press "domestic terrorism" charges against people for "doxing" law enforcement officers. [...] which the Justice Department insinuates is a threatening activity used to "silence opposing speech, limit political activity, change or direct policy outcomes, and prevent the functioning of a democratic society."

California governor says Trump ‘putting ego over responsibility’ as military show shuts highway

Reply in thread

No, never happened.

This is I-5, the main highway in CA and the entire West coast. It is full of shipping and business commuters 24/7, and even a minor shutdown likely causes millions in losses.

FTA:

Newsom said safety concerns over the event forced state officials to close a portion of the busy Interstate 5 near the US Marine Camp Pendleton base on Saturday. [...] The California Highway Patrol said in a statement the military event would involve “live ammunition being discharged by the federal government over the freeway” and made the call to temporarily close a portion of the freeway

It sounds like the gov. just said "we're doing this, you gotta figure it out now".

Yes, Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension was government censorship

Reply in thread

I've read elsewhere that he was spreading misinformation -- specifically that is was a MAGA that shot Kirk. which,

1] it is opinion about Trump and MAGA's reaction, not making a statement about the shooter themself.

2] even if he was, it's opinion based on what he knew

3] even if it's wrong, it's free speech

4] even if it's a lie (ie he knows its wrong), that's still constitutionally protected. Fox News even went to the supreme court to protect their right to lie.

Never noticed that phenomenon anywhere else

I wonder if the internet culture of sharing has died off somewhat. Old guy here. Are people are so used to consuming they forget about sharing? Or maybe it's just the type of person who uses the internet today is inherently more consumer then early adopters?

In my day a big appeal of the internet was to share things. But now it is to consume things.
