So there was this fiction book series I read about cybersecurity. Old tech is the ultimate security in the story, it's creepy how parallel it is to today. You would have to take some extra steps to make it secure but you would be out of the radar of the majority.

The whole premises is like how Macintosh was considered being secure was because nobody wanted to waste their finding vulnerabilities to it since it was such a small batch of users. Of course that changed. But you can use what you have as dedicated forks for certain functions as a layer of security. W11 is going to likely have more vulnerabilities compared to W7 since no one really uses it anymore. Or even LTSB/LTSC forks. You would have to be on a list if you're getting attention.

sadly it's not. everyone caught on. in 07' it was great. here take my kitchen oil for free so I don't have to pay someone to dispose of it. the filtering systems and storage didn't cost much. conversions were easy but they still did a lot of engine damage. now where it gets complicated is citations if you're caught using it (tax bullshit) and well it's hard to mask the smell of French fries driving down the street.

This has been going on for a while. Even before llms. When I was younger, I was actually educated as in trying new things and learning about them. Then came the proficiency test focus of leave every child behind. Then came in gutting classes and programs to only focus on tests and sports. Then came the charging money for sports. Then when I worked in education; it got worse. You would have kids that are 14 that can't write two sentences; can't write an email without auto-correct; struggled to read, it looked like someone smacked a keyboard to try and write something. And so on; it's just the next level of going downwards.

It was sad to see that students with so much access to tech became so ... I don't even know.

When I was thirteen I was writing programs, using pretty much any multimedia software, beta testing games (how to get free games for 500), tweaking the lawnmower engine (to mow the lawn faster, that pesky governor lol), and so on.

So you're right, this won't change, maybe when it backfires it might. But this is creating a huge void, not even a brain drain anymore. There's going to be a general malfunction to society. I mean it's sad

I would not want to work in IT these days; even debating if I really want to do cybersecurity or just stay a career college student and work a part time job.

I'm kind of surprised they don't do hybrid controllers yet. As in the experimental kind used for prosthetics. Combine that with an EEG headset. Sounds like fun to me. Then again setup time would be a pain.
