It's so bright it hurts...

Maybe I’m oblivious, but I can’t imagine a scenario where adjusting your shoe/sock would seem that weird. Now when you have a giant booger stuck in your nose and no tissue, that’s a different story.

we need more users

I’m feeling very burnt out. Lemmy is kinda an endless stream of political doom and gloom. For context, I’m in the US and already stressed out by our political situation. But I don’t come here to see more doom and gloom. It’s getting to the point where I think I need to get off for my mental health.

Then there are all the people who if you don’t agree exactly with their opinion they downvote you to hell. You have left leaning politics but not my flavor of left? Downvote! You hate enshitification and big tech privacy practices, but you use a single piece of software that isn’t FOSS? Downvote!

It’s so exhausting. I absolutely hate Reddit but I miss going on there and just laughing at how someone’s TV is too high. I miss laughing at how some restaurant serves food of shovels instead of plates.

And that’s not even getting into the lack of content. That part I understand requires users like myself to be as active as possible. But it’s hard being active when I feel so burnt out from the other stuff here.

Tbh, idk if these issues are specific to Lemmy or just the internet as a whole. I can only speak to the slice of the internet I find myself in. But I just wanna see people that are excited about things: photography, 3d printing, weird keyboards, etc. And that exists here, but it’s drowned out by all the doom and gloom.

Days since last timezone issue

You think timezones are annoying? Try handling metrics that use imperial and metric, need to be rounded to different precisions across a large system, and are sometimes recorded in a different unit than it's viewed in. Slap some floating point error on there, and you got yourself a fun time.

I spent all day working on bug where backend was categorizing 19.9999 as falling between <20, but frontend was rounding it to 20 and categorizing it as >=20.

Edit: just to be clear, I don’t really think this is more difficult than date/time. But it does remind me a lot of solving date/time issues.

"Apple has locked my Apple ID, and I have no recourse. A plea for help"

In my experience, the best way to get Apple to listen is to get legal involved. I spent hours on the phone trying to resolve a laptop that was damaged by a certified service provider. Apple support was rude, they lied to me, they bounced me between departments. So I wrote one email requesting all the recordings for the calls with support. Immediately someone from legal contacts me, apologizes, and 2 weeks later I have a brand new laptop 2 generations newer in hand.

i just got an ad in my lemmy inbox.

Hi I’m the developer that made the app you’re using.

Click the persons name

Then click the 3 dots menu

\

Then you can block from there. If it’s not intuitive enough, I’m open to suggestions for how to make it easier.

Actually, what if I just added a big “Block” button if the message is from a person you’ve never interacted with?

first social media post rule

Blorp dev here. First off, honored to have the first app mention in onehundredninetysix. I’ve been slowly expanding support for alt text, but I need to add the actual input to enter all text. Sorry, I know this is important for accessibility, and I’ll try and get that into the next app release.

If you have any other accessibility requests for Blorp, don’t hesitate to @ me in the comments. Screen reader should be working already.
