he called his dad and confessed. his dad advised him to turn himself in. he said he'd rather commit suicide. his dad called his youth pastor to talk him down, who called the US marshals to secure him. I feel bad for the dad.. that's got to be a genuinely horrible situation to navigate.

JD Vance suggests trans people pose a “domestic terrorist threat” & FBI plans to target trans people - LGBTQ Nation

prepare for surveillance of any social groups you belong to, harassment at security checkpoints, detainment if you say anything they can take out of context as evidence of some crime or threat, and random acts of violence. have armed security at any event where large numbers of trans people attend. improve your opsec - switch to Signal, get an iPhone or GrapheneOS, migrate from Discord/Google/Instagram. start carrying a taser and take self-defense classes. put together a bug-out bag. stock up on HRT if you can. don't break any laws, no matter how minor. if you are arrested or detained: comply with orders (under protest), don't tell them your phone PIN, say nothing except "I exercise my right to remain silent and I want an attorney."

it remains to be seen how bad this gets. if they start rounding people up in masse, we'll all need to flee and request asylum.

good luck.

Do trans people like to be noticed?

cis women compliment (and get complimented on) their appearance all the time. trans women like that too. so yeah, without reference to them being trans, 100%.

but getting clocked sucks, so even if you're supportive and an ally it's not good to make a reference to them being trans unless they've told you. (though definitely don't lie, even for flattery, since we're insecure about false compliments in general.)

but if they tell you they're trans, or if you find out through some way not connected to their appearance (e.g. they show an old ID)... then, and only then, compliments on their physical appearance are absolute catnip. I remember once checking into a motel and showing my old ID, and the person at the front desk said "sorry, he has to be here in person for me to accept his ID" - he thought I was my own sister lol. that was one of the greatest moments of euphoria in my entire life! he was worried he'd offended me once I explained I'd transitioned but I was like "nah bro, you can't imagine how good that made me feel."

thank you for writing this up. ❤ I'm also trans and spent time in that particular community because I have very intense dysphoria/bdd and found other spaces to be toxically positive. it wasn't a healthy place, and I picked up more brainworms, but I felt like I could vent and not feel so alone.

it's really easy for people without crippling dysphoria to sit back and judge you for going to /tttt/. it's unhealthy, I know it's unhealthy, but sometimes unhealthy outlets are the only way I can make the hurt get better for a while. I can't just be all uwu skirt go spinny when my body feels like sewage.

our existence is a threat to traditional gender roles and family structure. the real thing they fear is "social contagion" - that trans kids will see us living happy lives, and realize they can transition too. they're afraid of gay people for similar reasons, but physical transition is a whole new level - they have a visceral reaction against it, like their innocent child has been irrevocably, physically corrupted.

they realized that using their existing levers of power (cutting off funding, changing curriculum, ID laws etc.) won't do shit: we can DIY hormones, socialize on the internet and look out for each other. so now they become increasingly authoritarian, hence designating us as "domestic extremists" and calling for our forced institutionalization.

the Heritage foundation is handling us like the SCP foundation handles a Keter-class anomaly.

What is the most obscure fact you know?

Chinese scientists worked to create the "humanzee," a human-chimpanzee hybrid in the '60s. Female chimpanzees were impregnated with human sperm. The experiment was cut short by the Cultural Revolution - the scientists were sent to labor camps and a three-months pregnant chimpanzee died of neglect. The Soviets attempted a similar program in the '20s.

she had a reputation for racial stereotyping even before she went mask-off as a terf, decades back. like naming the one Asian character Cho Chang (sounds like ching chang chong; both names are from different Asian countries), naming the one Black character Kingsley Shacklebolt (King from MLK, shackle from slavery), naming the Jewish character Anthony Goldstein, naming an Irish character Seamus Finnegan...

...it's not that she was necessarily super racist, she just used very stereotypical/over the top names for her characters. so I don't hate her for being racist, I hate her for being transphobic.

I don't know the details, so I could be out of line, but you sometimes do have to force severe anorexia patients to eat. you can straight up die from it. and once you're anorexic for long enough, your body stops feeling hungry at appropriate times, so you have to make yourself eat X number of calories on a schedule for a few months during refeeding.

t. recovered anorexic who narrowly avoided inpatient.

fun fact, Mr. Rogers testified at the Supreme Court to save format shifting, in a landmark copyright case:

"I have always felt that with the advent of all of this new technology that allows people to tape the 'Neighborhood' off-the-air ... they then become much more active in the programming of their family’s television life. Very frankly, I am opposed to people being programmed by others. My whole approach in broadcasting has always been ‘You are an important person just the way you are. You can make healthy decisions’ ... I just feel that anything that allows a person to be more active in the control of his or her life, in a healthy way, is important."

the Court agreed with Mr. Rogers and cited him in the majority Opinion.

TIL that the Mar-a-Lago face is a thing

Matthew J. Nykiel, a board-certified surgeon, stated the appearance is modeled after Ivanka Trump's appearance.[9] Melinda Anna Farina, an aesthetic consultant, identified the Mar-a-Lago face as attempting to emulate the appearance of Eastern European women.[2]
