It wasn't, though. The planets were basically defined as "it's those 9 there".

People only started to push for a property-based definition when we started finding exoplanets. And only really moved into it when a 11th candidate was found and there were some 3 or 4 more possible ones.

First: that wont ever make it to a history book

It probably will, it's too relevant to be left out. It will just not be explained in that plain language, because people care about protecting children from the raw character of historical figures.

Just to point out that, despite what a lot of people strongly believe, the Moon does not move in the sky at the same speed as the Sun. So they both can be visible at once, or neither.
