Germany apologized for oppressing white people. We never apologized for the colonialism and the genocide of the Herero and Nama and barely talk about Slavic or Roma victims of the Holocaust. It's white Jews we talk about, people not considered white back then but now.

Also no apology yet for continuing to materially support the ongoing genocide in Palestine by white fascist colonizers. Or for the 27 million Russians killed in WW2, the largest group of victims by far. Or for murdering over a million socialists. Or for financing and arming the anti-communist genocide in Indonesia in 1965/66. If Germany is anything, it's consistent. Not one bit less eager to commit genocide today.

TBF Brazil is only richer than Portugal in terms of GDP, because it has like 15 times the population. Portugal still has twice the GDP (PPP) per capita of Brazil. Of course, in terms of politically power, Brazil dwarfs Portugal, which is probably more important for this particular issue.

It's because Portugal treated their lands as extensions of Portugal rather than colonies. The royal family has even moved to Brasil at one point.

while partially true, there is a very big caveat, at first it wad not like that at all, it was a textbook extracvist colony, that could only trade with their colonizers directly, all foreign trade was mediated by portugal

and even after the crown of portugal moved to brazil and brazil gained status of kingdom, and in a personal union with with portugal (thus estabilishing the united kingdom of portugal and brazil), the majority of the population was still slaves and that will still be case for a long time, the now Kingdom of Brazil still operated mostly as a colony, just now the capital to which it responds to is Rio de Janeiro and not Lisbon

The royal family has even moved to Brasil at one point.

Only to flee the Napoleonic wars.

Eh, no they didn't.

They only changed policy when Napoleon invaded Portugal, like a sibling says. And only in Brasil.

They get a bit of a pass in part because they were less genocidal than most other European imperiums. But mostly because it was all a long time ago and the other ones on the meme were less than a lifetime ago.
