'Eco-friendly' paper and bamboo straws contain PFAS chemicals, study finds
Reply in thread
It's possible that we could reduce regular use, yet allow those with accibility issues to continue to use the alternative. This can work in tandem to help address the real problem accumulation of single use plastics. Not using a straw is a valid solution for the majority of use cases.

What training plan do you use?
This is not an endorsement, or recomendation, just starting my progression path. As a late club joiner, late onset runner. I started using free online training plans like Hal Higdon's novice plans for 1/2 marathons and marathons. My first goal was to finish a 1/2 marathon. Then a full. I graduated to using Training peaks w/ a purchased training plan from Joe Friel, sub 4:00, and then sub 3:30. From there I purchased Pete Pfitzinger advanced marathoning and faster road racing, and have done a few cycles of 18-55, and 12 55, and am now doing his half 12-63. I joined a club in 2021, but never really run with them, as I like to stick to my own traning plan, and am good with following a prescriptive plan.
The path I'd suggest for most runners, is consider joining a club, with similar minded runners, if you can, with a similar race goal in mind, and communally work towards that, if that's your thing. Otherwise, the free online plans can get you sub 3:30 no problem, if you put in the work, and can not over train, it's very important to listen to your body, and avoid creating chronic problems. you may not get fast, as fast, but you are a faster runner when running than when injured.
Once you get to a certain point you'll want to do more reading, and see which plans fit your prefered style of trianing, and lifestyle, borrow books from friends, or read them online, then mix it up.

Share your techniques for maintaining motivation when recovering from injuries
Having goals, but also realistic expectations. Knowing that you can't got from 0 to full throttle w/out hurting yourself.
For my, in 2014, I had an itb issues which caused me to dns my first marathon, I found I could not run w/out pain for a long time. I was hurt, crying. I took time off, and got the leg functioning right again. Restarted very slowly. Ran 1200 miles that year starting with 1-2 mile runs 3 x a week, lots of short distance miles. The way I got back was avoiding getting injured by over during it. I set a 2016 goal of a marathon, but I built my base over 12 months.
Good luck, but train smart

How do you deal with being broke?
This isn't your situation, but this is how we did it while living very paycheck to paycheck. Plan and budget. We had a plan for everything. It hurt, but we planned our store trips, our meals were the sales and manager specials. We knew how much gas we were buying and which kid had birthdays and gifts to buy for, and we shopped ebay gift cards and scrapped by. We also made hard decisions, and it sucked. We cut cable, and other non essentials, we almost never went out. We were able to plan a path out, we refinanced our house, by taking a title loan on my car. We consolidated our cc debt.
What I'm trying to say is, you find a way. Maybe you can work towards a promotion, or a new career. Or find a different living situation which would be cheaper to help sort it out. Try not to lose hope, try to find a path to prosper. I'm pulling for you.

What are things you wish you knew when you started running?
I wish I'd started running sooner in life for sure. I think it's important to understand that slow and steady progress is more productive that getting into an injury cycle. That balance, being core strong and doing things other than just running helps.
Most of all, enjoy the spot in running that you are at. If you are just starting note how you are progressing, each milestone and pr is great. I've now been running for about 10 years, and have come a long way and only regret not starting sooner.

anyone got a archive copy, or gift pass to see it?
Edit, thanks I came here from elsewhere, reading now. my bad
-- its an interesting perspective. I don't have a coach who can check splits or plan my runs by time. I could plot and guess, and I'm sure I'd do well, might be interesting to see if I can produce results w/out a watch, but I do like it. Like earbuds / music u do you.
