Homeowner narrowly saves trees from removal scam

Reply in thread

“They send you a check for $1,500, and they want you to send $500 back to them,” Adam Barbee with Arbor Sense said. “And then that way, they take $500, and you try to go cash the check, and the check is no good.”

If someone sends me a check for $500 more than they should have, I would just have them send me another and void the incorrect one. Checks that don't match invoices make for sloppy books.

6 in 10 Americans Doubt Biden's Mental Capability: Poll

3rd paragraph of the "article"

By the same token, nearly 6 in 10 also say they lack confidence in the mental capability of former President Donald Trump, the 77-year-old Republican front-runner.

This article is verbatim from the AP news site also.

from the ap article, https://apnews.com/article/biden-state-of-union-mental-capacity-trump-reelection-66d8784586d21f30885d8153f949510c

The poll of 1,102 adults was conducted Feb. 22-26, 2024, using a sample drawn from NORC’s probability-based AmeriSpeak Panel, which is designed to be representative of the U.S. population. The margin of sampling error for all respondents is plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.

these polls are shit.

FTC: Companies Are Using Your Data for Individualized 'Surveillance Pricing'

walmart rolled this out and call it "dynamic pricing" I have known for half a decade that a VPN can yield me discounts and you get different prices by region for the same product, like an ISP. For the most part it seems simply being unknown provides the desired outcome. I don't think any part of dynamic or surveillance pricing is designed to ever bring a price down over learning about someone.

Brain roll

Like everything that this goon touches, this neuralink shit is a farce. The leads need to be placed very specifically, then they need to not move with brain growth. They move, and fail, and then musk doctors get to open your head up again to reset them. This shit is never going to be viable. With muskrat involved it is certainly to be a grift.

But, this company synchron has it figured out. No placing leads, no open brain surgery. Outpatient install, and adaptive. Thing becomes part of the vein wall.

Thanksgiving is my least favorite holiday

I spent a decade living 1500 miles from any family and really enjoyed not having to do the holidays. I moved back a few years ago and kept my ways of not participating. My family is a fractured mess of divorce spread over 3 hours of driving if one wanted to partake, and, I am a long time Vegan, And, I am a long time non-alcoholic

My family is cool enough, but I have no interest in celebrating genocide while watching them eat animals and get drunk. I am certainly not going to drive 3 hours in the cold and heavy traffic with jacked up gas prices, with a bunch of drunks out on the road.

I told them, pick any other day for any other reason and I would love to come hang.

U.S. officials urge Americans to use encrypted apps amid cyberattack that exposed live phone calls

I keep spouting off about how cops use geofencing and a bunch of peter theil tangent companies are contracting with cops. Flock safety is selling cops drones and leasing cameras to cops, they also use the cops to get companies to install backdoor access to their cameras. So clever to use cops as sales and pr. But no one reads about it. They just listen to the capitalist media spew how 90% of crime is now solved thanks to this company, and other erroneous statements. The propaganda is wildly out of control.

I wonder why people litter in the USA?

reduce, reuse, recycle.

That shit is in order of most impactful.

I buy as much as I can second hand. Doing so, I am not bombarded with trash. No boxes, no bags, no plastic wrap.

We should 100% just not be producing all this trash. Coffee at home has zero waste, no plastic cup, no receipt, no carrier, no lid,...... do that shit everyday x millions of people. smh

Marketers are about to infiltrate your favorite subreddits - The Verge

Reply in thread

I was active in another platform for a specific older car. It was 5-6 of us who mostly spent time answering questions from people trying to keep their car running. Lots of detailed specific responses. Then the advertisers started to be offered user accounts that allowed them to spam post the whole platform. One in particular would post ads, they look like posts from a user though, every couple days, for a scanner that doesn't work for our cars. So I started calling these posts out as you can comment on them. I told the admin they can tell the marketers to fuck off or I am gone. No one to answer questions, no one is going to show up to ask them. They rather have advertiser pay them $30/mo to spam it than have it function. On lemmy, I mod this community now.
