Oligarchy is worse than you think

A couple interesting ideas in here.

The way we teach federalists vs anti-federalists in America always focuses on the anti-federalists desire for individual freedom and states rights. This is framed as protection of freedom and we don't call out that it's really a proxy for protection of individual property and wealth, even though it's right there under our nose, particularly with how conservatives use states rights as a cudgel. They get you with the patriotic feels that all of our individual freedoms are being protected, so you ignore the wealth disparity.

Also, that the senate and supreme court are institutional oligarchy in that power is limited to a few. Particularly with how much influence the supreme court has and you think about that being only 9 people and a decision can be made by only 5. It takes away the power of the masses. Add to that the fact that they've capped the number of reps in the house and your voice is more and more diluted.

everyone warning!!

Back when the internet was new and it wasn't clear why every business would need a website, pringles was one that stood out to me as completely unnecessary. There's no direct sales and there's no pringles news to speak of. Turns out they had a bunch of fun little mini games on there. In short, I probably need to check the status of my pringles.com account...

Modern work is making people ill: Here an article about a condition called "Attention Deficit Trait", similar to ADHD, caused by too much work

I was nodding along until the last section about what organizations can do for their people and it's like give them a "human moment" where they can talk to a person every 4 hours or do some light exercise. Maybe give them a brain healthy snack... Seriously?! Why can't we ever step back and recognize that it might be that the demand is too high and that is not some failure of character of the worker? I hear a lot of people complain that worker productivity has increased without wages having grown to match. Why don't we stop to question the need to constantly be productive more? The productivity monster is never satisfied; always asking for the line to grow higher and the employee to be more efficient with their time. The first half of the article states our brains are simply not wired for that level of demand and then the author suggest we life hack our way through it to even greater levels of productivity. They tack on unlimited sick days as an after thought, but even that is crap if the company culture is wholely focused on productivity. Workers will be trained to not use it. Those that can work from home, just pivot to that so they don't get others sick, but they also don't get behind in work. It's insanity.

What is a hobby you'd love to get into but cant for what ever reason

When I was young I always wanted to skateboard. I was kind of scene adjacent being into punk and metal in the 90s/00s, but none of my close friends skated and the kids I knew that did seemed kind of gate keepy. I bought a decent board and a vhs (pre youtube) on how to do some tricks. I was even saving up and making plans to build some backyard ramps or half pipe since we didn't have a skate park near by. Despite this I could never figure out an olly which seemed to be the entry level trick and since my friends didn't skate I was only ever practicing on my own and never got direct feedback on what I was doing wrong. Now I'm in my 40s and even if wanted to pick it up, I'd break something for sure.

Sure. In the bigger cities sometimes. More often we'll say convenience stores, bodegas or just use the chain store name like 7-11. But corner store gets used often enough even if the stores aren't actually on corners
