What do you think is responsible for lemmy’s growth over other alternatives like KBin and Tildes?
More mature, you can’t even collapse comment on kbin.

Awkward the turtle ( 1000 sub reddit mod) banned and begging to get unbanned.
Have some karma turtle shit. You abuse, you get abused by a bigger fish. Always have been.

Why everyone is switching to NixOS ?
I keep seeing trends with Linux distribution like teenager looking for new fashion.
I think it’s mostly the very young Linux user who hope from one distribution to the another over and over whereas many just stick with what they got : Ubuntu, Debian, mint, maybe fedora.
NixOS is certainly interesting tho.

Should Lemmy have Karma?
Definitely against karma. Some retard can say something smart once in a while, would you dismiss what he says based on his karma. Opposite is true, a smart ass can be completely wrong and yet have huge karma.
User karma on comment, not on people.

Did the reddit hivemind do a 180 or are the people left behind just the people who don't care.

She’s not a monster, she just doesn’t reddit like I do.
The way you need to precise she’s not a monster make me doubt it. Does she live by night, avoid the sun at all cost during daytime and drink children blood for dinner ? If so I have bad news.
on a more serious note, I agree that most people come on reddit for a little giggle or to spend time but don't know that much about the backend of it. Eventually they find out after some time and then decide if they care or not about the api price change, in the meantime no one can blame them for just living their life without caring about reddit.

10x Speedreading for no effort
I tried it on a ebook once, it works very well here on small text but once you go for a full book it doesn’t really make a difference.
It’s more efficient to just follow where you are reading with your finger.

Well it forced me to look for alternative. People won’t necessarily stick with Lemmy right now, but they know there are alternative, some of their name and what it looks like.
Personally I have looked at Lemmy and nine or kine (something like that) and I think it’s pretty close.

I know it’s a même but Linux isn’t that good for running old app that have a user interface. Old command line interface works perfectly but that’s mostly for developer.
windows make it available to everyone.
It’s one of the few things windows does better, might as well recognize it.

North Korea: Residents tell BBC of neighbours starving to death
Everytime i read about North Korea, i wonder how people can be so passive. I get that they risk being shot at anytime but at some point when you see people around you die from starvation, don’t you say fck it and go kill a government official ?
I get that I’m not in this situation, probably would react different but from the exterior all of that is painfully passive from North Korean.

undefined> https://lemmy.world/post/37906

Reply in thread
