So about this, and it took me a moment to wrap my head around this. I say this as a man. I agree with the “all men” sentiment. It doesn’t matter whether it’s truly all men, it’s enough that it might as well be all men. A woman walking on the street alone, her attitude that it’s all men will help her.

I know that the vast majority of men feel offended by this. I know I do, this message rubs me the wrong way. I don’t like that people make the statement. But that’s a failure of our collective society, not up to any one individual. I wish for a world where we don’t need this. I wish for a world where any person can walk out alone and feel safe.

Also this message isn’t about us. It’s about what women experience. If they feel unsafe this way, that is what needs to be fixed. This message should be a call to action, not a call to excuses.

Fact is, too many men are making women feel unsafe and it’s up to the rest of us to make clear this is unacceptable.

Seems like the real story here is one guy maintaining a critical infrastructure begging for volunteers to help out and nobody steps up. So yeah, I really don’t like what he does. And also the OSS community is failing him.

How about just the completely entitled attitude of the execs that think they can tell us how to enjoy something. Only to then whine that nobody wants to buy their 70 euro no better than mid game

Between Framework at least trying to build an open ecosystem, there are very very few other options out there. Yes they can probably do better, still they are effectively the only decent open option (for me at least) at a reasonable price and quality.

They are all challenges that can be overcome. But at what cost. Consensus is that economically it seems hilariously unviable. Datacenters tend to have to make their money back within about 3 years. The 3 year make money back issue is also why I believe the AI DC buildout is such a high risk gamble/bubble. In a year or two, all that hardware they made a year ago will need to be replaced. You just redo the whole investment again…

When I saw the other day that github reliability was <90% I knew they are deep on the road to fully cooked.

Free speech doesn’t mean irresponsible speech. I’m for free speech as well. Except I expect to be held accountable over what I say, and so do others. And I accept that I give space to speech I disagree with.

The irony is that those who whine about needing free speech the most also hate to be held accountable to what they say and they hate it when others disagree with them. Both of which are actually violating the principles of free speech.

So how about we all accept that free speech is an important right to uphold and protect as well as not be a bunch of dicks about it 😎

What blows my mind is how people are crapping on Mozilla just constantly. Yeah sure they can do better. But also it’s the only real alternative to total domination from Chrome and all the dozens if not hundreds of rebuilds/ripoffs/reskins. It’s bizarre that they providing such a negative perspective on the basically the last bastion of an open web.

This constant negative attitude just boggles my mind. I’m happy with Firefox and Thunderbird with the functionality and features. Most of all the internet desperately needs diversity in the browser space.

For what it’s worth. I’m also skeptical of what they’re doing in the ad space. But I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt because the internet sadly runs on ads for the vast majority of it. If they’re trying to at least bring something ethical to that space they have my support. Once they have a fair chunk of the market and don’t rely on the Google antitrust protection racket to survive we’ll talk about how to do better.

Take care of your health. Any unhealthy habit you develop now is going to be kicking your behind later. Also, hang around people that get the best out of you. Not just party people. Cause when stuff gets tuff your party buddies are going to be nowhere to be found.

Let’s be very clear here. Chrome ripped off the hard work from the KDE webkit people. That is also the reason much of it is open source, because open source and volunteer contributions made it live.

Maybe we should do a reverse embrace-extend-extinguish where we open everything up until the point that they start introducing ads to enshittify the platform. Then after that great migration say goodbye to them

This is very difficult. My mom was very straightforward with this and wanted everything worked out, a breeze, she took the initiative and is organizing. My wife’s parents are in the mode of “I’ll worry about this when I’m dead”. We’ve dropped some hints, especially since they had a medical emergency recently. But there is little more to do than offer help, information and ask what they want. If they’re not open to it, you’re just damaging the relationship and I’m not sure it’s worth it. There is no easy “win-win” scenario here.
