Is anyone else beginning to mourn reddit?

for me its going to be very melancholic to see something I've (unfortunately) spent years on. I will actually be sad to see it go, not the app itself but all the smaller communities and the wiki's and all the knowledge that was shared. It was inevitable but I didn't think it would be so soon or so quick.

At the same time, good riddance.

On Politics and Forking

I zeroed on that too. Ive never thought or seen the very word "minorities" as a political dog whistle but I guess thats just sign of the times

(For real it does suck to be seen as political just for being)

Discord vs Matrix - What’s Your Preference?

discord is absolute trash for me no matter where I use it but alas the network effect keeps me on it. I'm only there because all of my friends are there😮‍💨

ive tried matrix with fluffychat a while back but somehow it was a little intimidating to me. besides I prefer forums, especially with strangers. chats feel too personal lol

this is exactly true (sorry if this is off topic and/or preaching to the choir).

This is also is why I'm often so wary about people who talk so loudly about being able to treat one anotherwell regardless of political beliefs. Sure it sounds good in a vacuum, and I'd agree with it otherwise but when the said politics often includes "trans people dont exist" and "marriage is for one man and one woman" that makes me feel less welcome. IMO human rights issues shouldn't even be a political contention but unfortunately thats the reality of the world we live in.

What ttRPG are you playing right now/ or are you planning on trying soon?

I have been running a very simplified and chopped down version of gurps about surviving a dangerous British town as a group of orphans trying to pay their rent. Its been really fun despite me being rather new to the system and to DMing in general.

I think if I wanted to expand on different systems, I'd wanna try more "toolbox", genre-less types of RPGs, though less crunchy like FUDGE or even risus. I like the flexibility those types of RPGs give in making your own world and being able to pick and choose rules. But i may stick with gurps for now because it already has that and I also like a simulation type of rpg. It has a noice amount of crunch that I appreciate.

do you think the fediverse could replace popular social media

Reply in thread

yeah I definetly agree. specifically because of the lack of algorithms or profit motives it won't be " addictive " nor as easy as traditional social media to find what I'm most likely to engage in. but it also means ragebait is less likely to be pushed to me, and for that, its actually quite fine...

im quite sick of the "few big websites" that the internet has become. I miss when there were a greater variety of forums, blogs and places to hang out, only supported through people's passions. and it seems to me federation goes back to those old times.
