YSK that Gerrymandering allows politicians to determine election outcomes by changing electoral maps. In most western countries, it's illegal. Gerrymandering is common in the United States

Gerrymandering should be a crime and conviction should mean removal from office and a life long ban on working in politics.

Now we just need a way to do that that isn't vigilante violence.

It is kind of frustrating how every system needs to resist people (usually conservatives) from acting in bad faith.

Bernie Sanders response...

Hmmm disagree. If someone's politics are violence, and they have a serious path to enacting them, it's self defense. Self defense is generally acceptable.

I don't want to politely walk into a concentration camp because a bunch of people in states I don't even live in voted to exterminate the queers and their friends.

Also anyone who's going to say "Gay marriage is violence against society" is an asshole and wrong. Anyone who says abortion is murder but isn't doing jack fuck to help living humans is not worth listening to. Just to preempt the "well they think the same about you!" nonsense.

Republicans quietly cut IRS funding by $20 billion in bill to avert government shutdown

A 2021 report from the Congressional Budget Office indicated that the $80 billion in added IRS funding over 10 years would yield approximately $200 billion in added tax revenue without raising taxes. The Biden administration this week said $140 billion would be added to the debt over a decade due to the cuts, per the Washington Post.

Anyone who says republicans are good at the budget and national debt should be laughed out of the room.

They are the worst of people and I pray that saint luigi will visit them.

The great millennial garbage gyre

A confounding issue is the apps themselves have gotten worse over time. Like, old okcupid you could search. You could type in like "final fantasy" or "the Mets" and find people who liked those things enough to put them on their profile.

Now you're limited to whatever the app decides to give you. Well, the app doesn't want you to leave so that incentive doesn't line up.

Why aren't there mass protests in the USA?

I'm going to guess

  • poor media coverage
  • media is explicitly hostile to protests and pro trump/right-wing-extremism
  • many people are living paycheck to paycheck + we have minimal labor protection
  • years of left-wing organizations being kneecapped (eg: the murder of fred hampton)

A lot of people are angry but there's not really much organization. As much as I would love someone to take 50,000 of their closest friends, march down to DC, and shoot every republican in the head, without years of organizing that's just a fantasy. Unfortunately, the right wing has been doing years of organizing and it's now bearing fruit for them.

Electric Cars

Honestly it's a little how my mom talks when she gets upset. Just a stream of things that are loosely connected but are all bobbing along on the same river of emotion.

It's how I get stuff like "You never call me you call your cousin he's cheating on his wife you know just because you broke up with your girlfriend doesn't mean you have to take it out on me". You can kind of see how there's a shared feeling or theme there but it's not articulated.

I'm going to guess that for someone who produces output like that, input of that type goes in easily. They're just vibing on the emotions.
