I also doubt it was his intent, but "accidentally pro-eugenics" is still "pro-eugenics."

It's a funny movie that's easy to draw comparisons to as far as how brazenly stupid things have become, but it has always bothered me when people call it "prophetic," as it implicitly accepts some deeply flawed aspects of its premise.

Having a drink to calm the nerves is one thing, but spending several minutes taking shots of vodka before a date sounds like straight-up alcoholic behavior. Unless OP is greatly exaggerating, either she has a massive tolerance, or she would end up a drunken mess in front of her date, which would probably be much worse than a case of the nerves.

You know, years ago, I used to really like Neil before he adopted this "Well, ackchually..." shtick over scientific inaccuracies in works of fiction. I find him absolutely insufferable now. It's the same kind of brainworms as CinemaSins.

Reading into the updates some more... I'm starting to think this might just destroy CloudStrike as a company altogether. Between the mountain of lawsuits almost certainly incoming and the total destruction of any public trust in the company, I don't see how they survive this. Just absolutely catastrophic on all fronts.

Could they have made the headline any more misleading??

Why does everything have to be so fucking stupid? Is it really not enough that we have to watch the destruction of democracy happen before our eyes? Must it really be carried out by a group named after an early 2010s internet meme featuring a Shiba Inu with bad grammar? Do we really have to read serious reporting about the criminal connections of a 19-year-old government employee called "Big Balls?"

I just never imagined the fall of American democracy would be so... inane.

Not as drastic as the headline makes it out to be, or at least so they claim.

“We acquired Tumblr to benefit from its differences and strengths, not to water it down. We love Tumblr’s streamlined posting experience and its current product direction,” the post explained. “We’re not changing that. We’re talking about running Tumblr’s backend on WordPress. You won’t even notice a difference from the outside,” it noted.

We'll see how that actually works out. Tumblr’s backend has always seemed rather... makeshift, so I'm curious to see how they manage to do that. Given Tumblr’s technical eccentricities, a backend migration could probably do a lot of good for the functionality of the site, if done properly. I have my doubts that WordPress' engineers will be given the time and resources to do a full overhaul/refactor though, so I'm fully expecting even more janky, barely functional code stapling the two systems together.

I wonder how much it has to do with how much of a shithole the Fandom network is. Between the godawful UX, aggressive SEO to bury competing wikis in search results, and scummy business practices that effectively prevent wiki admins from migrating to other hosts, the idea of maintaining a game wiki probably isn't all that appealing these days.

I miss Wikia...

Humble used to be an event that celebrated and showcased indie developers while at the same time raising many millions for charities. Then IGN bought it and rapidly enshittified it into a bog-standard, for-profit corporate enterprise like any other, and I'll never forgive them for it.

Do they even give any of the profits to charity any more? If they do, I bet they only keep it around to take advantage of the tax writeoffs.

It's important to remember that Jones is a grifter first and foremost. He has never sincerely cared about anything in his life beyond his own enrichment, and I don't think this is a sign of him starting now. That said, I think it may still be significant that even hardcore grifters like Jones and Fuentes are starting to publicly speak against Trump. Grifters are always going to follow the money, so if Trump's ship is sinking so fast that even Alex Jones sees it to be more profitable to start to move away from him, maybe the MAGA cult of personality really is starting to finally fall apart...

Granted, that's all speculation, and Trump has managed to defy every previous prediction of the fall of his influence, so I don't want to jump to any conclusions here, but after the Canadian elections, I feel like I have a bit more reason to afford myself a little optimism for the future...

This reads as satire to me I think

Every MAGA accusation is a confession.

'90s-'00s McDonald's primarily appealed to kids, as the colorful characters and Happy Meals were a big part of the draw.

'10s-'20s McDonalds has pivoted to marketing towards adults, in part because they had come under fire for marketing greasy, oversalted calorie bombs to children as the US obesity epidemic took off. The other reason is that mid-to-low income adults became a much more lucrative demographic after decades of wage stagnation basically created an entire generation that's too tired and overworked to cook for themselves but too poor to go out to eat anywhere else.

Remind me again why anyone tolerates these clubs full of alcoholics, date rapists, and psychopaths? Frats make zero positive contributions to society, ban and disband them all nationwide.

Well, I guess "making your country such a shithole that no one wants to come here" is technically one way to stop immigration...

That has to be a GDPR violation, right?

No, your intuition is correct, this is extremely cursed.

The problem with the Steam Awards is that they try to get as many people to vote as possible, even if people haven't actually played the games in question.

People will see a bunch of games they haven't played, be like "oh hey I at least know the name of that one" and vote for it even though they have no idea if the others are more deserving or not.

The whitespace doesn't bother me. Any IDE worth a damn will manage that for you. As for the type system, yeah, I strongly prefer static typing, but for simpler projects I can see the convenience of it.

My real issue with Python comes with managing a development environment when multiple developers are working on it. Dependency management in Python is a headache, and while in theory, virtual envs should help with synchronizing environments from machine to machine, I still find it endlessly fiddly with a bunch of things that can go wrong that are hard to diagnose.

Python is great for small scripts, proofs-of-concept, and such, but I wouldn't write anything more heavy-duty than that in it.

The longer dems can keep the Epstein issue in the public consciousness, the better. If it slips from the news cycle for too long, the average voter will forget about it, and at that point the whole thing will be moot. It doesn't matter if they actually succeed, the longer they can draw this out, the more damage it will deal.
