Every generation has some product/ingredient that they didn’t know was dangerous at the time: tobacco, lead, asbestos, etc. What is that item for this generation?
Literally came here to say plastic. That's the one.

I can't game when I get home because I have a partner to emotionally take care of by spending time with her and strengthing our bond. Sure I bitch about it sometimes, but I'm also not 14 anymore and have different priorities.
EDIT: That's not to say I don't game, but I have to be a lot more selective and realistic with when and for how long I do it, and that's fine by me. Relationships are more important than videogaming dopamine hits.

‘Hell on earth’: Phoenix’s extreme heatwave tests the limits of survival

I bought a book a few years ago and I think it is called Climatopolis. The first chapter talks about how major cities in certain parts of the world (focused mostly on the U.S.) are fast becoming super heated islands because of all of the steel and glass and concrete in densely packed over urbanized areas and furthermore, that there will be no escape for the poor and disenfranchised because the asphalt absorbs the heat so night gives no reprieve.

Do neurotypicals really not have to do this? I'm seriously asking.

Maybe you do, but do you really want to get on medication for a thing you aren't 100% you have? Do you have health insurance? Reason I ask is that ACA plans all have to treat mental health like normal medical coverage, so there is a good chance you could go see someone to talk about whether you may or may not have ADHD and other stuff for cheap, and if your plan doesn't have good coverage you could maybe look into switching to one that does once open enrollment happens again.

Apparently, Google's new AI-based search is quite honest.

Haha yeah this reminds me of the A.I super computer in China that was dismantling the idea that the CCP is a good idea, and giving democracy a glowup in the process. I heard that they shut that whole thing down after that, but this is all hearsay.

I wonder what other mental issues/ deficit disorders have the "time blindness" as a symptom? I have that and it is a very specific thing to have, and I'm currently trying to figure out if I have ADHD or what I have because there are definitely things about my behavior my whole life that have kept me behind everyone else, noticeably to myself anyway. Stuff I've had to just cope with, but still puts me at a disadvantage. Mathematics for instance. I can barely do algebra and I'm talking high-school level, no matter how hard I try, and my memory is shit, and it takes effort to stay on topic, or to stick with the same thing I'm doing. I hate routine and crave novelty but lack of routine ushers the chaos back in.

Takes like the one you are responding to me, and other common stances shared since the news of Threads hit the fediverse, can't help but remind me of the cautionary tale of the turtle and the scorpion (I think it was). The corporation is going to attack and kill the smaller entity, because that is its nature, just like the Scorpion riding on the turtle's back did. Let's not be the turtle.

I can't wait to see all the Alex Jones, Jordan Peterson, Joe Rogan, Tucker Carlson A.I.-likes.
I really hope the trolls put those people's (and others like them) likenesses in compromising positions using A.I. fuckery.

Oooh I have been waiting to see someone mention a BaconReader clone. I'm running Liftoff and it is perfectly serviceable and I appreciate the work the dev did to rejuvenate it from it's defunct state, but I miss BaconReader. Is it easy to download and install?

Maybe this makes me a dummy, but I don't understand the point of the bot? Like is it supposed to replace links that people post here from YouTube, with Piped instead?
