War stories

Yeah, but he also brought Treebeard to Isengard, leading the ents to overthrow Saruman. Did that not make the list?

He did plenty. In the movie he lit the beacon to call Rohan. Fought in the battle for Minas Tirith, where he saved Gandalf's life. Saved Faramir's life. Saved Merry's life.

Sauron himself questioned Pippin and came away with the conclusion that he should apply his army and attention toward Minas Tirith and Gondor rather than continuing to look for the real ring-bearer right under his nose. Essentially made the entire gambit with Frodo possible.

This has been a pro-Pippin PSA

Vote Blue No Matter Who

The meme mentions this like it's a Democrat issue, but Republicans do the same thing.

For example, Trump disavowed Project 2025 policies as too extreme, but then obviously followed them very closely.

The issue is election winners are almost always the one with >50% popular support. So candidates are incentivized to align their policies with those of the median voter. This persists across different voting systems, so rebuilding it for that reason may not help.

But you can still elect a progressive by voting for them in the primary election (where they can be more authentic) or if the median voter becomes more progressive (more progressives vote).

What's the biggest case of planned obsolescence you've dealt with?

65" Hisense TV. Bought it new and 1.5 years later the motherboard died. Scoured the Internet for the part and it turned out Hisense didn't even sell it, you had to buy secondhand used boards.

But it must have been a common problem b/c over ~6 months even the resellers were permanently sold out. Recycled it in the original packaging.

IMO companies like that should be forced to recycle every scrap of their e-waste themselves.

Sanders is a rare voice for progressive, prosocial reform in the US. His policy positions resonate with many of us who feel that government should support ordinary people at least as much as the obscenely wealthy.

But beyond that, he's genuine and his messaging has been consistent for decades. You can literally find images of him being arrested fighting for social justice in the 60's.

Also he's sharp and nearly every time he makes a point he drops the facts to support it.
