no rule infuriates me more

It goes in waves... Where I'm from, a house built in the early 70s needs to be checked for aluminum wiring, but it otherwise ok. Late 70s early 80s is good. 90s is bad, then 2000s got better. Late 10s and 20s is only shit condos.

People avle to buy a home tend to prefer an old 80s house or a 2010 condo.

(Note that my numbers are approximates, don't trust me for your real estate investments!)

[META] Are paid for, closed source projects, being advertised on this community, appropriate?

I'm ambivalent about the topic because the goal is for us to own our servers...

Most of the hardware I use is proprietary, but at the end of the day Intel can't come and rob me of the object I paid for. Sure it will become obsolete in 10 or 20 years, but I'm still the owner.

When it comes to software, I want to own it, not just a license. Most proprietary software comes with strings attached, which is why I don't think it fits the self-hosting philosophy.

If a proprietary software was "buy it once and own the binaries forever", I wouldn't mind seeing it discussed here. (Plex with lifetime licenses comes to mind.)

However, I don't want to see advertisement for a proprietary software the same way I don't want to see ads for some specific hardware components.

That's my opinion.

PLAY TIME 🥳

Today I witnessed a kid skiing through a totally-avoidable puddle of water for fun. My friend commented on how immature the kid was because he got all wet.

Just at that instant, a ski resort employee on a snowmobile went through the exact same (totally avoidable) puddle.

I confess that I would have done the exact same thing! Also, if i was a bird, i would totally slide down roofs for fun.

While there may be a part of it being "different gravity", dark matter cannot 100% be explained by modified gravity of any kind.

Why do we know this? Well there are observable galaxies that survived collisions and have been stripped of their dark matter, and the reverse is also true (galaxy-sized dark matter blobs without baryonic matter in it).

I can refer you to this wonderful PBS Spacetime video about it: https://youtu.be/5t0jaE--l0Y

Senses

nothing is real do what you want

That is a fallacious conclusion from this observation. Don't use this philosophy as an excuse to act like an asshole.

While everyone perceives reality slightly differently, apples do have a specific light absorption and reflection spectrum.

Our limited perception of it doesn't make it "not real". Same is true for other senses as well.

Same here! The janitor is such a badass, he keeps the whole building ruining and is always around.

The CEO sens like a nice guy, but everytime he's around, it feels like he's just trying to get people to wave at him.

Let’s Do This! Remove Tarriffs on EVs

We should simply allow European safety standards as equivalent to american ones, allowing every model approved i the EU to be sold in Canada without costly changes and re-certification.

If a car is good enough for German highways and Norwegian mountain roads, then they should be good enough for Canada.

I once was reported by the high school programming class for "plagiarism" because I used visual studio's auto-generated template to start my homework.

The teacher reported it to my parents, he wanted to make me fail. I was also reported for creating a "hidden" chat app that I shared with my friends. (It didn't show in the taskbar.)

Next Christmas, they bought me a visual studio license at home!

In the context of Dawkins meme, this post is definitely a meme!

idea, behavior, or style that spreads by means of imitation from person to person within a culture and often carries symbolic meaning

If we consider scientists imitating the behavior of other scientists (ex: leaving the us) combined with the social network post (signifying the symbolic meaning), it checks all the correct boxes to me!

Would another peer review my analysis?
