A Court Case Reveals Some of Tim Hortons’ Secrets

Reply in thread

Thanks for the read, but that is all things I already knew. That article + sec filings show that main owner is still Brazil, second two most powerful investors (and the bulk of the remaining ones) are US.

My main issue with Tim's is that it aggressively brands itself as Canadian. This is especially apparent if you see any of their chains outside of Canada where their whole brand is just being Canadian. Which I take issue with as they have a sprinkle of Canadian ownership at best.

I think proton has two levels of 'killswitch' on it's VPN. The regular one is more of a 'killswitch but only when you have the app open' while the extra options are supposed to make it an actual kill switch. Whether or not this second level is completely effective I can't say.

Binding your client to the vpn interface is definitely the way to go. This safety measure is widely known, but I feel that it is much less well known than it should be.

City councillor proposes city-run grocery store to tackle rising food costs

In an idyllic world where no capitalist greed is focused on maximizing shareholder value that might be a more significant concern. But in modern day, a union raising their wages by 10% might result in less than a 1% increase in user prices. Whereas the ruling class of capitalists are the true source of greedflation making products unaffordable.

If anything in your example I would argue that the better solution is actually more unions. Those nail salon workers should also earn living wages to afford the goods, which unions would fight for. I would be shocked to learn of any case where a union could be compared to the average elite-class capitalist in terms of greed.
