ICE Shoots Minneapolis Observer in the head
The murderer will definitely get away with it. There will be more ICE agents doing the same thing, emboldened by this incident and the lack of consequences. After the hundredth murder, people are definitely going to start shooting ICE agents on sight. The only way out now is for the administration to punish these agents, but like I said, this will definitely not happen.
After a while, it won't even be about immigration any more. ICE will have become a symbol of Trump and his power.

Oil tanker sabotage crew were poised to cut more cables when caught, Finland says
The head of the investigation, Risto Lohi of the National Bureau of Investigation, told Reuters the vessel was threatening to cut a second power cable, Estlink1, and the BalticConnector gas pipe between Finland and Estonia at the time it was seized.
"Lohi" is Finnish for "salmon". That's right. Inspector Salmon is in charge of this investigation. Thankyou, Finland.

Capitalism
consumerism != capitalism
Capitalism is the allowing of control over companies to be bought and sold without the consent of their workers.
Consumerism is using cheap marketing tactics to sell cheap garbage to people who don't know any better, and is mostly the result of not requiring companies to pay for the waste they create.
Either of these could easily exist without the other.
Stop defining everything you don't like about the economy as capitalism.

Jailed Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny dead, prison service says

Brave, but not stupid. It was self-martyrdom—self-immolation. The only thing Навальный did not expect was just how long it would take Путин to crucify him. Now, at last, Путин's fate is sealed, and by his own hand. Just like Israel, if the IDF pushes half of Gaza into Egypt.

Nobel Prize for imperialist war and regime change goes to Washington’s Venezuelan puppet María Corina Machado
When I read the title, I thought the OP had editorialised it. Then, I clicked through and realised it was editorialised by the source itself. This is not serious news. It is effectively opinion. It does not belong here. Read the rules again, OP.

There are two kinds of people.
I legit had no idea anybody actually used the upper system until now. I had to read the comments just to see whether the upper system was just some sort of joke. I am horrified.

@[email protected] is right. This isn't about arctic security or deterrence at all. The US military already has unlimited access to the whole island and its airspace. The only reason Trump wants it to be a part of the US is because he is a manbaby and the grown-ups have all told him he can't have it.

Traffic engineers and urban planners in the US and Canada know all about European design, and they agree.
It's the voters that are the problem.

Wikipedia doesn't say anything about efforts to detect AI-generated content or to ensure only humans can edit. This is bad. I'm saving a copy of 2024 Wikipedia just in case.

China hits Lockheed Martin and Raytheon with export ban after US arms sales to Taiwan
Please sanction us more, China. Nothing would make me happier than a total economic disconnection from your genocidal state. We normally have to work very hard to accomplish this.

Slate Truck is a $20,000 American-made electric pickup with no paint, no stereo, and no touchscreen
I find this minimalism strangely appealing. Unfortunately, I do not live on a farm. I hope this thing is useful to those who do, though.

I hate how everything requires you to download a shitty proprietary data harvesting app nowadays when everything can be done just fine without an app.
Large parts of the City of Toronto bike share—public infrastructure—requires such an app. Taxpayers without an iphone or android computer can't access the services they already paid for.
